Constitutive Promoter Occupancy by the MBF-1 Activator and Chromatin Modification of the Developmental Regulated Sea Urchin α-H2A Histone Gene

2007

The tandemly repeated sea urchin alpha-histone genes are developmentally regulated. These genes are transcribed up to the early blastula stage and permanently silenced as the embryos approach gastrulation. As previously described, expression of the alpha-H2A gene depends on the binding of the MBF-1 activator to the 5' enhancer, while down-regulation relies on the functional interaction between the 3' sns 5 insulator and the GA repeats located upstream of the enhancer. As persistent MBF-1 binding and enhancer activity are detected in gastrula embryos, we have studied the molecular mechanisms that prevent the bound MBF-1 from trans-activating the H2A promoter at this stage of development. Her…

A temperature-sensitive brain tumor suppressor mutation of Drosophila melanogaster: Developmental studies and molecular localization of the gene

1993

The recessive-lethal, temperature-sensitive (ts) mutation of the tumor suppressor gene lethal(3)malignant brain tumor (l(3)mbt) causes in a single step the malignant transformation of the adult optic neuroblasts and ganglion mother cells in the larval brain at the restrictive temperature of 29 degrees C. The transformed cells are differentiation-incompetent and grow autonomously in a lethal and invasive fashion in situ in the brain as well as after transplantation in vivo into wild-type adult hosts. The imaginal discs show epithelial overgrowth. At the permissive temperature of 22 degrees C development is completely normal. The ts-period of gene activity responsible for 100% brain tumor sup…

EFECTOS DE LOS VIDEOJUEGOS EN LAS MARCAS EMPLAZADAS: LA TRANSMISIÓN DE EMOCIONES

2012

Experimental Study of the Effects of EIPA, Losartan, and BQ-123 on Electrophysiological Changes Induced by Myocardial Stretch

2015

<title>Textures from stereo-based IR imaging for industrial tire inspection</title>

2000

A conceptual system to produce 3D thermal models of tires for tire inspection and defect characterization is proposed. The system uses registered range and thermal information to build highly detailed 3D models using either a volumetric or mech-based approach. To achieve this goal, two narrow bandpass filters are used in conjunction with two IR cameras to obtain the true temperature of the target body. The thermal information is then translated to texture data and mapped as an overlay onto a 3D model. The textures are realizable through the use of three-component texture maps that include rgb values to specify the texture coordinates in the plane. The objective is to generate a movie loop d…

On-body to on-body channel characterization

2011

Interest in on-body communication channels is growing as the use of wireless devices increases in medical, consumer and military sensor applications. This paper presents an experimental investigation and analysis of the narrowband on-body propagation channel. This analysis considers each of the factors affecting the channel during a range of stationary and motion activities in different environments with actual wireless mote devices on the body. Use of such motes allows greater freedom in the subject's movements and the inclusion of real-world indoor and outdoor environments in a test sequence. This paper identifies and analyses the effect of the different components of the signal propagati…

Kanban Systems in the Context of the Enterprise Systems

2021

Companies are under increasing pressure from customers, competitors, limited resources, etc. These conditions oblige companies to permanently improve their organizational structure and the activities of all system’s flows. The paper analyses the types of Kanban systems, in the broader context of the enterprise systems. The most important reference architectures were analysed (with the emphasis on the modules dedicated to flow description) and the standards that allow the activity modelling of a manufacturing enterprises. Starting from this context, the paper describes three models of Kanban systems that are specific to companies with different information systems development. Models are: Pu…

The New Venture Decision: An Analysis Based on the GEM Project Database

2007

The new venture decision is a crucial stage in the process of creating a new business and is influenced by a series of social, demographic, cultural and economic factors, amongst others. These factors have been the subject of several studies, though there is still no widely accepted agreement on exactly how they affect the decision to create a new enterprise. This study will provide evidence on which variables affect the new venture decision, as well as the extent of their influence based on the analysis of a sample of 7524 cases, using information obtained via the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2001 Project. At the same time, we provide evidence to show that there are differences in the w…

Multitemporal mapping of peri-urban carbon stocks and soil sealing from satellite data.

2017

Abstract Peri-urbanisation is the expansion of compact urban areas towards low-density settlements. This phenomenon directly challenges the agricultural landscape multifunctionality, including its carbon (C) storage capacity. Using satellite data, we mapped peri-urban C stocks in soil and built-up surfaces over three areas from 1993 to 2014 in the Emilia-Romagna region, Italy: a thinly populated area around Piacenza, an intermediate-density area covering the Reggio Emilia-Modena conurbation and a densely anthropized area developing along the coast of Rimini. Satellite-derived maps enabled the quantitative analysis of spatial and temporal features of urban growth and soil sealing, expressed …

Islands of biogeodiversity in arid lands on a polygons map study: Detecting scale invariance patterns from natural resources maps.

2016

Many maps (geology, hydrology, soil, vegetation, etc.) are created to inventory natural resources. Each of these resources is mapped using a unique set of criteria, including scales and taxonomies. Past research indicates that comparing results of related maps (e.g., soil and geology maps) may aid in identifying mapping deficiencies. Therefore, this study was undertaken in Almeria Province, Spain to (i) compare the underlying map structures of soil and vegetation maps and (ii) investigate if a vegetation map can provide useful soil information that was not shown on a soil map. Soil and vegetation maps were imported into ArcGIS 10.1 for spatial analysis, and results then exported to Microsof…
