Combining multi-typologies landslide susceptibility maps: a case study for the Visso area (central Italy)
2023
The research proposes a simple but geomorphologically adequate method to produce a combined landslide susceptibility map. In fact, in a logic of real use, offering type-specific landslide susceptibility maps to land use planners and administration could be not a successful solution. On the other hand, the simple grouping of more types of landslides could be misleading for model calibration considering that the relationships between slope failures and geo-environmental predictors should be conveyed by the abundance of each type of landslide resulting not specific and diagnostic for each typology. In this test, after having produced independent models for flow, slide and complex landslide by …
Susceptibility analysis for seismically-induced landslides: application to the 2001 earthquakes in El Salvador (C.A.)
2022
<p>The geodynamic context in which El Salvador is located, made of a convergent structure characterized by the interaction among six different plates, together with the lithological characteristics of the outcropping rocks and soils (mainly corresponding to deeply weathered acid pyroclastites, basic effusive rocks and volcanic ashes), are responsible for the very high seismically-induced landslide susceptibility of the country. These predisposing factors were decisive on the occurrence of thousands of seismically-induced landslides caused by two huge earthquakes on 13th January and 13th February 2001…
Lilybaeum. Aspetti della vita in una domus al tempo di Cicerone
2021
In a II c. BC house at Marsala (via Sibilla), partially uncovered in the seventies of the last century, an atrium-like room with four central columns was brought to light. The other excavated rooms are paved with opus signinum and white/black mosaics, and some First Style wall painting fragments were recovered above the floors. Other Late Hellenistic houses at Marsala present the same characteristic tetrapyle courtyard. Some scholars consider these courtyards as atria, others as small perystiled courts. To introduce this theme, it’s briefly discussed the s.c. ‘Romanization’. In the particular context of Roman Republican Sicily, the cultural processes started under the Roman rule should not …

Five Ways in Which Computational Modeling Can Help Advance Cognitive Science
2019
Abstract There is a rich tradition of building computational models in cognitive science, but modeling, theoretical, and experimental research are not as tightly integrated as they could be. In this paper, we show that computational techniques—even simple ones that are straightforward to use—can greatly facilitate designing, implementing, and analyzing experiments, and generally help lift research to a new level. We focus on the domain of artificial grammar learning, and we give five concrete examples in this domain for (a) formalizing and clarifying theories, (b) generating stimuli, (c) visualization, (d) model selection, and (e) exploring the hypothesis space.
Las contiendas musicales de Apolo
2014
ABSTRACT: This article studies the contemporizing of the ethical and social connotations ascribed to string and wind instruments by the Grecolatin tradition that Hispanic Emblematics carried out in the 16th and 17th centuries. This is most evident in the depiction of the legend of Apollo in his respective musical competitions against Marsyas and Pan. This contemporizing of the legends allows us to perceive the political, social and religious dimensions that these musical contests acquire in the Hispanic World. KEYWORDS: Apollo, Marsyas, Pan, Midas, Cithern, Lyre, Aulos, Vihuela , Guitar.
