In „The Tenant of Wildfell Hall” Anne Brontë considers one of the most burning questions of the Victorian period, i.e. the problem of male domestic violence. The novel contributed to the public debate on the defects of the legal system which discriminated against women and made them totally dependent on their fathers and husbands. Recent studies on boys and young men’s heterosexual practices point in contradictory directions. On the one hand, boys and young men seem to be placing less value on “hard”, overtly aggressive masculinity and compulsive heterosexuality, in keeping with their adoption of more egalitarian attitudes in their sexual relationships. On the other hand, the hegemonic masculine notions that associate “real” men with sexual prowess persist as well. In this article, we argue that this contradiction indicates careful (re)calibration in doing respectable heteromasculinities. La división sexual en la cultura androcéntrica requiere de un trabajo de construcción simbólica que divide por una parte lo visible, los cuerpos; y por otra lo no visible, las subjetividades. Se trata de una separación que genera identidades distintas sobre un arbitrario cultural cargado de hábitos diferentes. Este orden físico y psicosocial se basará en un ideal hegemónico masculino dominante. El siguiente texto es un intento de exponer una pequeña parte de la construcción de dicha masculinidad centrándose en la violencia organizativa que reciben los hombres por el hecho de ser hombres.

Homosexual male sex work is undoubtedly a complex phenomenon, underestimated and overlooked not just in scientific research,2 but also in social policy. The social realities of sex work, as well as the sex workers themselves, are often pigeonholed and confused with various other phenomena (including child abuse; paedophilia; human trafficking and exploitation; drug use and addiction, etc.), which, though they may sometimes be involved, have swayed the focus of research. The present chapter will discuss main sociological perspectives on male sex work.

In this paper, we explore women’s participation in esports and competitive gaming. We will analyze two different types of research material: online questionnaire responses by women explaining their reluctance to participate in esports, and online forum discussions regarding women’s participation in competitive Overwatch. We will examine the ways in which women’s participation – its conditions, limits and possibilities – are constructed in the discussions concerning women gamers, how women are negotiating their participation in their own words, and in what ways gender may affect these processes.
