Ultrafast Carrier Redistribution in Single InAs Quantum Dots Mediated by Wetting-Layer Dynamics

2019

Optical studies of single self-assembled semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) have been a topic of intensive investigation over the past two decades. Due to their solid-state nature, their electronic and optical emission properties are affected by the particular crystal structure as well as many-body-carrier interactions and dynamics. In this work, we use a master equation for microstates (MEM) model to study the carrier capture and escape from single QDs under optical nonresonant excitation and under the influence of a two-dimensional (2D) carrier reservoir (the wetting layer). This model reproduces carrier dynamics from power-dependent and time-resolved microphotoluminescence experiments . Du…

Quantum light depolarization: the phase-space perspective

2008

Quantum light depolarization is handled through a master equation obtained by coupling dispersively the field to a randomly distributed atomic reservoir. This master equation is solved by transforming it into a quasiprobability distribution in phase space and the quasiclassical limit is investigated.

Dynamic self-assembly of photo-switchable nanoparticles

2012

Nanoparticles functionalized with photo-switchable ligands can be assembled into a broad range of structures by controlled light exposure. In particular, alternating light exposures provide the means to control formation of assemblies of various sizes and symmetries. Here, we use scaling arguments and Kinetic Monte Carlo simulations to study the evolution of reversible aggregates in a solution of periodically irradiated photo-switchable nanoparticles. Scaling estimates of the characteristic size and the mean separation of aggregates agree with the simulations. The transition probabilities in the Kinetic Monte Carlo scheme are derived from a renormalized master equation of the diffusion proc…

Calculation of the rate constants for hydrogen abstraction reactions by Hydroperoxyl radical from Methanol, and the investigation of stability of CH3…

2020

Abstract Master equation (ME) with Lennard-Jones potential utilized to simulate the collision between CH3OH and HO2 radical in the presence of bath gas. The reaction mechanism explored through the lowest doublet potential energy surface at CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pVTZ//B3LYP/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory that is barrierless and forms shallow energized intermediate at the entrance channel. The investigation of the fractional population showed that lifetime of CH3OH.HO2 intermediate (INT*) is fairly short due to its shallow depth, and at the low temperature, most reaction takes place by re-dissociation back to reactants and also when the pressure is high enough, the INT* is thermalized and comes into eq…

Modeling Networks of Probabilistic Memristors in SPICE

2021

Efficient simulation of stochastic memristors and their networks requires novel modeling approaches. Utilizing a master equation to find occupation probabilities of network states is a recent major departure from typical memristor modeling [Chaos, solitons fractals 142, 110385 (2021)]. In the present article we show how to implement such master equations in SPICE – a general purpose circuit simulation program. In the case studies we simulate the dynamics of acdriven probabilistic binary and multi-state memristors, and dc-driven networks of probabilistic binary and multi-state memristors. Our SPICE results are in perfect agreement with known analytical solutions. Examples of LTspice code are…

Coherent master equation for laser modelocking

2020

Modelocked lasers constitute the fundamental source of optically-coherent ultrashort-pulsed radiation, with huge impact in science and technology. Their modeling largely rests on the master equation (ME) approach introduced in 1975 by Hermann A. Haus. However, that description fails when the medium dynamics is fast and, ultimately, when light-matter quantum coherence is relevant. Here we set a rigorous and general ME framework, the coherent ME (CME), that overcomes both limitations. The CME predicts strong deviations from Haus ME, which we substantiate through an amplitude-modulated semiconductor laser experiment. Accounting for coherent effects, like the Risken-Nummedal-Graham-Haken multim…

Dissipation and entanglement dynamics for two interacting qubits coupled to independent reservoirs

2008

We derive the master equation of a system of two coupled qubits by taking into account their interaction with two independent bosonic baths. Important features of the dynamics are brought to light, such as the structure of the stationary state at general temperatures and the behaviour of the entanglement at zero temperature, showing the phenomena of sudden death and sudden birth as well as the presence of stationary entanglement for long times. The model here presented is quite versatile and can be of interest in the study of both Josephson junction architectures and cavity-QED.

Quantum jump statistics with a shifted jump operator in a chiral waveguide

2019

Resonance fluorescence, consisting of light emission from an atom driven by a classical oscillating field, is well-known to yield a sub-Poissonian photon counting statistics. This occurs when only emitted light is detected, which corresponds to a master equation (ME) unraveling in terms of the canonical jump operator describing spontaneous decay. Formally, an alternative ME unraveling is possible in terms of a shifted jump operator. We show that this shift can result in sub-Poissonian, Poissonian or super-Poissonian quantum jump statistics. This is shown in terms of the Mandel Q parameter in the limit of long counting times, which is computed through large deviation theory. We present a wav…

Zeno dynamics and high-temperature master equations beyond secular approximation

2013

Complete positivity of a class of maps generated by master equations derived beyond the secular approximation is discussed. The connection between such class of evolutions and physical properties of the system is analyzed in depth. It is also shown that under suitable hypotheses a Zeno dynamics can be induced because of the high temperature of the bath.

Cavity losses for the dissipative Jaynes–Cummings Hamiltonian beyond rotating wave approximation

2007

A microscopic derivation of the master equation for the Jaynes-Cummings model with cavity losses is given, taking into account the terms in the dissipator which vary with frequencies of the order of the vacuum Rabi frequency. Our approach allows to single out physical contexts wherein the usual phenomenological dissipator turns out to be fully justified and constitutes an extension of our previous analysis [Scala M. {\em et al.} 2007 Phys. Rev. A {\bf 75}, 013811], where a microscopic derivation was given in the framework of the Rotating Wave Approximation.
