Evaluation of the cytotoxic effect of 7keto-stigmasterol and 7keto-cholesterol in human intestinal (Caco-2) cells

The biological implications of cholesterol oxidation products have been investigated, though research on plant sterol oxidation products is scarce and in some cases contradictory. The cytotoxicity of 7keto(k)-stigmasterol versus 7keto(k)-cholesterol at different concentrations (0-120 μM) and incubation times (4-24h), in intestinal epithelial cells (Caco-2 cells) was evaluated. The 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,3-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide and neutral red uptake tests, mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm), and relative DNA and RNA contents in the cell cycle phases were determined. Teaching practice as a testbench of learning in master's degree education for nurse teachers in Finland.

This article presents the approach and procedures used in a Finnish developmental study on nurse teacher education. The teaching practice period was organized by dividing student teachers into small study groups and assigning the group an entire course to be planned and carried out in teacher/student collaboration. The work process of the groups was videotaped and analysed qualitatively. Preliminary results and ideas concerning the developmental needs of nurse teacher education are presented.
Single-layer metal-on-metal islands driven by strong time-dependent forces

Non-linear transport properties of single-layer metal-on-metal islands driven with strong static and time-dependent forces are studied. We apply a semi-empirical lattice model and use master equation and kinetic Monte Carlo simulation methods to compute observables such as the velocity and the diffusion coefficient. Two types of time-dependent driving are considered: a pulsed rotated field and an alternating field with a zero net force (electrophoretic ratchet). Small islands up to 12 atoms were studied in detail with the master equation method and larger ones with simulations. Abstract Three new polyamine conjugates with stigmasterol [(3β,22 E )-stigmasta-5,22-dien-3-ol] were synthesized and subjected to basic antimicrobial and cytotoxic tests. The conjugate derived from spermine, (3β,22 E )-stigmasta-5,22-dien-3-yl 4(12-amino-4,9-diaza-dodecylamino)-4-oxobutanoate ( 5c ), displayed considerable antimicrobial activity on Staphylococcus aureus at low concentration (50 μg mL −1 ). The cytotoxic activity was tested on cells of human T-lymfoblastic leukemia (IC 50 = 35.8 ± 10.3 μM ( 5c ) and IC 50 = 35.9 ± 5.7 μM ( 5b )) and normal human fibroblasts (IC 50 = 38.0 ± 2.8 μM ( 5c ) and IC 50 = 45.5 ± 1.9 μM ( 5b )). Conjugate 5a displayed no activity in both tests.

A continuación se realiza una descripción de la estructura del Máster de Profesorado de Educación Secundaria de la Universidad de Valencia y de las finalidades, contenidos, metodología de enseñanza, evaluación y las características del profesorado de las especialidades de ciencias. Por último, se realiza una valoración de la implementación del mismo durante sus 3 primeros años de existencia, en particular, en nuestras especialidades respectivas.

This paper establishes an exponential H ∞ synchronization method for a class of master and slave neural networks (MSNNs) with mixed time-delays, where the delays comprise different neutral, discrete and distributed time-delays and the class covers the Lipschitz-type nonlinearity case.
