Sobre grupos radicales localmente finitos con min-p para todo primo p.

2003

SUMARY A group is said to be locally finite if every finite subset of G generates a fi-nite subgroup. The class of locally finite groups is placednear the cross-roads of finite group theory and the general theory of infinite groups. Many theorems about finite groups can be phrased in such a way that their statements still make sense for locally finite groups. However, in general, Sylows Theorems do not hold in the class of locally finite groups and there are a number of generic examples which show that locally finite groups can be very varied and complex. If we restrict our attention to locally finite-soluble groups with min-p for all primes p then the Sylow ¼-subgroups are very well behave…

Unificación de enseñanzas relacionadas con el Tratamiento Digital de Señales en la Universitat de València

2011

Teaching Digital Signal Processing (DSP) at the University of Valencia takes place in several subjects with a great overlap in contents. This work proposes an approach to unify DSP contents, so that it is possible to extract the contents corresponding with each subject. Moreover, the proposal is based on a repository that contains the common contents; the repository is hosted on a virtual learning environment, being Moodle and DotLRN the two platforms under study. The final implemented solution consists in an HTMLrepository formed by a number of basic teaching units. These basic units are packaged in a standard IMS-CP format, making up the materials of the different subjects.

Testing Equality of Multiple Power Spectral Density Matrices

2018

This paper studies the existence of optimal invariant detectors for determining whether P multivariate processes have the same power spectral density. This problem finds application in multiple fields, including physical layer security and cognitive radio. For Gaussian observations, we prove that the optimal invariant detector, i.e., the uniformly most powerful invariant test, does not exist. Additionally, we consider the challenging case of close hypotheses, where we study the existence of the locally most powerful invariant test (LMPIT). The LMPIT is obtained in the closed form only for univariate signals. In the multivariate case, it is shown that the LMPIT does not exist. However, the c…

Fingerprints of heavy scales in electroweak effective Lagrangians

2017

The couplings of the electroweak effective theory contain information on the heavy-mass scales which are no-longer present in the low-energy Lagrangian. We build a general effective Lagrangian, implementing the electroweak chiral symmetry breaking $SU(2)_L\otimes SU(2)_R\to SU(2)_{L+R}$, which couples the known particle fields to heavier states with bosonic quantum numbers $J^P=0^\pm$ and $1^\pm$. We consider colour-singlet heavy fields that are in singlet or triplet representations of the electroweak group. Integrating out these heavy scales, we analyze the pattern of low-energy couplings among the light fields which are generated by the massive states. We adopt a generic non-linear realiz…

p-grupos finitos

1997

In the first part, new bounds for the number of conjugacy classes of maximal length of a finite $p$-group $G$, $r(G)$, are obtained, and they are related with the length of these classes. If $r(G)=p^m-b-1$, there exists a unique normal subgroup of order $p^b$, $N_b$, which is characteristic, and structural properties of these groups are studied when $b\le 3$, by paying special attention to the relation between $N_b$, $Z(G)$ and $G$. In the second part, new bounds for the degree of commutativity of a $p$-group of maximal class are established. In Chapter 2, the bounds known for $c$ are reviewed. In Chapter 3, the reuslts obtained by Shepherd for $c_0\le 4$ are extended to $c_0\le 10$ by mean…

Determination of the pole position of the lightest hybrid meson candidate

2019

Mapping states with explicit gluonic degrees of freedom in the light sector is a challenge, and has led to controversies in the past. In particular, the experiments have reported two different hybrid candidates with spin-exotic signature, pi1(1400) and pi1(1600), which couple separately to eta pi and eta' pi. This picture is not compatible with recent Lattice QCD estimates for hybrid states, nor with most phenomenological models. We consider the recent partial wave analysis of the eta(') pi system by the COMPASS collaboration. We fit the extracted intensities and phases with a coupled-channel amplitude that enforces the unitarity and analyticity of the S-matrix. We provide a robust extracti…

Improved unitarized heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory for πN scattering to fourth order

2004

We extend our previous analysis of the unitarized pion-nucleon scattering amplitude including up to fourth order terms in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. We pay special attention to the stability of the generated Delta(1232) resonance, the convergence problems, and the power counting of the chiral parameters.

A First Assessment of the Corrections for the Consistency of the IAU2000 and IAU2006 Precession-Nutation Models

2020

The Earth precession-nutation model endorsed by resolutions of each the International Astronomical Union and the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics is composed of two theories developed independently, namely IAU2006 precession and IAU2000A nutation. The IAU2006 precession was adopted to supersede the precession part of the IAU 2000A precession-nutation model and tried to get the new precession theory dynamically consistent with the IAU2000A nutation. However, full consistency was not reached, and slight adjustments of the IAU2000A nutation amplitudes at the micro arcsecond level were required to ensure consistency. The first set of formulae for these corrections derived by Capita…

Parameterized nonrelativistic limit of stellar structure equations in Ricci-based gravity theories

2021

We present the non-relativistic limit of the stellar structure equations of Ricci-based gravities, a family of metric-affine theories whose Lagrangian is built via contractions of the metric with the Ricci tensor of an a priori independent connection. We find that this limit is characterized by four parameters that arise in the expansion of several geometric quantities in powers of the stress-energy tensor of the matter fields. We discuss the relevance of this result for the phenomenology of non-relativistic stars, such as main-sequence stars as well as several substellar objects.
