Effects of a Heart Rate–Based Recovery Period on Hormonal, Neuromuscular, and Aerobic Performance Responses During 7 Weeks of Strength Training in Men

The purpose of this study was to compare hormonal, neuromuscular, and aerobic performance changes between a constant 2-minute interset recovery time and an interset recovery time based on individual heart rate (HR) responses during a 7-week (3 sessions per week, 3 × 10 repetition maximum [RM]) hypertrophic strength training period. Neuromuscular fatigue induced by an isotonic heavy-resistance loading protocol in knee extensors.

Abstract The main aim of this study was to assess neuromuscular fatigue during a typical high-load, low-repetition loading protocol. Muscle stimulations were used to assess maximum voluntary contraction, resting single- and double-pulse twitch characteristics, and superimposed double-pulse twitch force (used to calculate voluntary activation) before and after an acute knee extension loading protocol. Plasma catecholamine responses to four resistance exercise tests in men and women

The plasma adrenaline ([A]) and noradrenaline ([NA]) concentration responses of nine men and eight women were investigated in four resistance exercise tests (E80, E60, E40 and E20), in which the subjects had to perform a maximal number of bilateral knee extension-flexion movements at a given cycle pace of 0.5 Hz, but at different load levels (80%, 60%, 40% and 20% of 1 repetition maximum, respectively). The four test sessions were separated by a minimal interval of 3 rest days. A phase I study of oral uracil-ftorafur plus folinic acid in combination with weekly paclitaxel in patients with solid tumors.

Ftorafur is an orally available prodrug of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). Its combination with uracil in a molar ratio of 1:4 (UFT) increases the 5-FU concentration in tumor cells compared with ftorafur alone. Paclitaxel has a broad spectrum of activity against solid tumors and synergic effects with UFT have been demonstrated in vitro. A phase I study was performed to determine the maximum tolerated dose of the combination of UFT and paclitaxel in patients with advanced solid tumors.UFT and folinic acid were applied at 300 mg/m2/day and 90 mg/day, respectively, on days 1-28, repeated on day 36. Similar increases in strength after short-term resistance training due to different neuromuscular adaptations in young and older men

This study investigated whether differences in neuromuscular performance and muscle hypertrophy occur between young and older men. Twenty-three young (29 ± 9 years) and 26 older men (64 ± 8 years) completed 10 weeks of high-volume, medium load “hypertrophic” resistance training with low frequency (twice per week) with 10 young (34 ± 11 years) and 11 older men (65 ± 3 years) acting as nontraining control subjects. The purpose of the present study was to compare the effects of short-term high-frequency failure vs non-failure blood flow–restricted resistance exercise (BFRRE) on changes in satellite cells (SCs), myonuclei, muscle size, and strength. This study examined the effects of different dynamic accentuated external resistance load levels during the eccentric(ECC) phase of ECC-concentric (CON) actions on acute neuromuscular, maximal force, and power responses in the bench press exercise in male subjects (age, = 32 +/- 4 years; n = 11).
