A healthy Nordic diet and physical performance in old age : findings from the longitudinal Helsinki Birth Cohort Study

AbstractEpidemiological studies have shown that a number of nutrients are associated with better physical performance. However, little is still known about the role of the whole diet, particularly a healthy Nordic diet, in relation to physical performance. Therefore, we examined whether a healthy Nordic diet was associated with measures of physical performance 10 years later. We studied 1072 participants from the Helsinki Birth Cohort Study. Summary Background & aims While most studies have shown increased mortality associated with excessive red/processed meat consumption, the association of saturated fatty acids (SFA) intake with mortality is less homogeneous. We aimed to prospectively assess the association of both, meat consumption (red, processed, red + processed, and total) and SFA intake, with the risk of all-cause death. The impact of chestnut extracts (Castanea sativa) from leaf, bur and hull at different concentrations on the shelf-life of beef patties during 18 days of refrigerated storage at (2 ± 1 °C) was studied and compared to control and synthetic antioxidant (BHT) samples. Total phenolics and in vitro antioxidant capacity of extracts were evaluated by using DPPH, FRAP, reducing power and oil accelerated oxidation test (peroxide value, conjugated dienes, p-anisidine and fatty acid profile). ABSTRACT: The usefulness of a dissolution/permeation (D/P) system to predict the in vivo performance of solid dosage forms containing the poorly soluble drug, fenofibrate, was studied. Biorelevant dissolution media simulating the fasted and fed state conditions of the human gastrointestinal tract were used in order to simulate the effect of food on the absorption of fenofibrate. Moreover, the results obtained from the D/P system were correlated with pharmacokinetic parameters obtained following in vivo studies in rats. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential for systemic administration of Methimazole (MMI) through the buccal mucosa as an alternative route for drug delivery. Considering that the most important restriction in buccal drug delivery could be the low permeability of the mucosa, the ability of MMI to cross the mucosal barrier was assessed.
