Transport mechanism of peptides through supported liquid membranes

Abstract The transport of selected dipeptides through supported liquid membranes impregnated with di(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid in n-dihexylether has been investigated. The fluxes depend on the side chain of amino acids, presence in the peptide structure. The highest fluxes were obtained for the peptides extracted with the highest efficiency. It has been found that the hydrophobicity of investigated peptides, was not the major factor, influences their SLM permeation. In the conditions studied, it has been observed that the transport of peptide–carrier complex was depending on the acidic–basic properties of the analyte. Solution properties of polyelectrolytes

Abstract Aqueous size-exclusion chromatography was used to analyse the elution behaviour of several standard ionic polymers, including poly( l -glutamic acid), sodium poly(styrene sulphonate) and poly(acrylic acid), different in nature and chain flexibility, as a function of the pH and ionic strength of the eluent. Two organic-based hydrophilic packings, Spherogel TSK PW4000 and Ultrahydrogel 250, were tested in order to select the optimal conditions of macromolecular separation, and the results obtained for each column were compared. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is one of the most frequently used polymers for the manufacturing of medical devices. Limitations for its usage are based upon unfavorable surface properties of the polymer including its hydrophobicity and lack of functionalities in order to increase its versatility. To address this issue, wet chemical modification of PVC was performed through surface amination using the bifunctional compound ethylene diamine. Sensory and Chemical Analysis of Fractions Obtained by Gel Permeation of Water-Soluble Comte Cheese Extracts

The pure water extraction of Comte cheese solubles and their chromatographic separation facilitate sensory analysis experiments with the fractions directly collected from the column. Two extracts, one obtained after ultrafiltration, the other after chromatography on Sephadex G25, have been separated on Toyopearl HW-40S. The sensory evaluation of the obtained fractions shows in the two cases that some fractions have interesting flavors. Packings of an unidimensional regular pore structure as model packings in size-exclusion and inverse size-exclusion chromatography

Using porous aluminas and aluminosilicates with a regular and well-defined pore structure an attempt was made to correlate the SEC data of polystyrenes with established theoretical models. The pore structure of the two types of packings was extensively characterized by means of transmission and scanning electron microscopy, nitrogen sorption and mercury porosimetry. The SEC distribution coefficients measured experimentally were correlated with the distribution coefficients calculated from the theoretical models for flexible polymers. Abstract Starting from triethylene glycol, monodisperse polyethylene oxides of a molecular weight (MW) up to 2000 (degree of polymerisation (DP) During the first step the ditosylate of triethylene glycol is reacted with the sodium alkoxide of the same diol at room temperature. The condesation product (polymer homologues of triethylene glycol) was separated by molecular distillation and yielded the pure oligomers nonaethylene glycol (DP = 9, MW 414) and pentadecaethylene glycol (DP = 15, MW = 678), as proved by gel chromatography. Theory-based improvements of continuous polymer fractionation demonstrated for poly(carbonate)

For the first time, a quantitative theoretical analysis (liquid/liquid phase equilibria treated by means of the continuous thermodynamics) of the operating characteristics of continuous polymer fractionation (CPF) was performed. The results of these calculations were compared with data published for CPF of polyethylene. It turned out that the efficiency of the conventional CPF corresponds to approximately two theoretical plates only. For this reason, several improvements, suggested by theoretical considerations, were realized experimentally, for which purpose the system dichloromethane/diethylene glycol/bisphenol-A polycarbonate was chosen. Revisiting Secondary Structures in NCA Polymerization: Influences on the Analysis of Protected Polylysines

Two series (degree of polymerization: 20–200) of polylysines with Z and TFA protecting groups were synthesized, and their behavior in a range of analytical methods was investigated. Gel permeation chromatography of the smaller polypeptides reveals a bimodal distribution, which is lost in larger polymers. With the help of GPC, NMR, circular dichroism (CD), and MALDI-TOF, it was demonstrated that the bimodal distribution is not due to terminated chains or other side reactions. Our results indicate that the bimodality is caused by a change in secondary structure of the growing peptide chain that occurs around a degree of polymerization of about 15.
