2012
Abstract Background The aim of this study was to assess nurses’ self-reported confidence in their professional skills before and after an extensive Emergency Department (ED) reform in Kanta-Häme Central Hospital. Methods Emergency nurses participated in transitional training commencing two years before the establishment of the new organization in 2007. Training was followed by weekly practical educational sessions in the new ED. During this process nurses improved their transition skills, defined house rules for the new clinic and improved their knowledge of new technology and instruments. The main processes involving critically ill ED patients were described and modelled with an electronic…

Recommended practice for out-of-hospital emergency anaesthesia in adults: Statement from the Out-of-Hospital Emergency Anaesthesia Working Group of t…
2016
Emergency anaesthesia is an important therapeutic measure in out-of-hospital emergency medicine. The associated risks are considerably higher than those of in-hospital anaesthesia. The primary objectives of emergency anaesthesia are hypnosis, analgesia, oxygenation and ventilation through airway management. The secondary objectives of emergency anaesthesia are amnesia, anxiolysis, the reduction of oxygen consumption and respiratory work, the protection of vital organs and the avoidance of secondary myocardial and cerebral damage. A critical evaluation of the indications for outof- hospital emergency anaesthesia must take into consideration patient, case and provider-related factors. Rapid s…
Auxilum Medicine: A Cloud Based Platform for Real-Time Monitoring Medical Devices
2015
Nowadays, time is a very valuable resource and can make the difference between life and death. Having knowledge about this fact we decided to deal with one of the most important aspects of contemporary medicine, EMS (emergency medical services) response time. Modern systems that encourage intelligent communication methods between medical devices and doctors are a must in ubiquitous health care environments. Auxilum Medicine fosters a triple-win situation regarding the relationship between medical institutions, doctors and patients. Emergency patients should be treated with utmost care because their life is hanging by a thread if nobody is present to take immediate action. We are presenting …
Factors determining patient admittance to the observation and consultation areas of the Emergency Department on workdays versus weekends
2019
Background In Poland, as in the world at large, Emergency Departments (EDs) face a formidable problem as they are overloaded with an excessive number of patients. Material …
