Towards Iron(II) Complexes with Octahedral Geometry: Synthesis, Structure and Photophysical Properties

The control of ligand-field splitting in iron (II) complexes is critical to slow down the metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT)-excited states deactivation pathways. The gap between the metal-centered states is maximal when the coordination sphere of the complex approaches an ideal octahedral geometry. Two new iron(II) complexes (C1 and C2), prepared from pyridylNHC and pyridylquinoline type ligands, respectively, have a near-perfect octahedral coordination of the metal. International audience; A new “two-story” calix[6]arene-based ligand was synthesized, and its coordination chemistry was explored. It presents a tren cap connected to the calixarene small rim through three amido spacers. X-ray diffraction studies of its metal complexes revealed a six-coordinate ZnII complex with all of the carbonyl groups of the amido arms bound and a five-coordinate CuII complex with only one amido arm bound. These dicationic complexes were poorly responsive toward exogenous neutral donors, but the amido arms were readily displaced by small anions or deprotonated with a base to give the corresponding monocationic complexes. Passively mode-locked laser based on an ultra-large dispersion Yb-doped fiber

Summary form only given. We report on the first realization of a passively mode-locked oscillator featuring an ultra-large dispersion Yb-doped Bragg fiber. The gain medium is a double-clad Bragg fiber featuring a 20 μm Yb-doped core surrounded by a 120 μm inner cladding [1]. The 2 m long gain fiber is cladding-pumped with a fiber-coupled laser diode emitting at 976 nm. Passive mode locking is achieved by the combined actions of nonlinear polarization evolution and a SESAM. Swarming of micron-sized hematite cubes in a rotating magnetic field -- Experiments

Energy input by under-field rotation of particles drives the systems to emergent non-equilibrium states. Here we investigate the suspension of rotating magnetic cubes. Micron-sized hematite cubes are synthesized and observed microscopically. When exposed to a rotating magnetic field, they form rotating swarms that interact with each other like liquid droplets. We describe the swarming behaviour and its limits and characterize swarm size and angular velocity dependence on magnetic field strength and frequency. Abstract Torrefaction (290 °C) and pyrolysis (450 and 800 °C) trials were performed at pilot scale with a patented reactor on metal-enriched poplars from a contaminated soil managed by phytotechnologies and poplars cultivated on uncontaminated soil, for comparison. This study emphasized the influence of temperature on end-product yield, metal distribution in end-products and metal behavior. Results showed that the evolution of the end-product yield, i.e. biochar, bio-oil and gas fractions, was depending on temperature rather than other parameters such as the origin or metal content of the tested poplars. International audience; Cu binding to root exudates of two cultivated plants, wheat (Triticum aestivum) and rape (Brassica napus), and two weeds associated with wheat, dog daisy (Matricaria inodora) and cornflower (Centaurea cyanus), was studied in vitro under hydroponic and sterile conditions. Nutrient solutions were prepared with or without P. A MetPLATE microbiological test was used to assess the metal complexing capacity of root exudates. Significance Dietary habits, especially meat consumption, represent a key aspect in the behavior and evolution of fossil hominin species. Here, we explore zinc (Zn) isotope ratios in tooth enamel of fossil mammals. We show discrimination between different trophic levels and demonstrate that Zn isotopes could prove useful in paleodietary studies of fossil hominin, or other mammalian species, to assess their consumption of animal versus plant resources. We also demonstrate the high preservation potential of pristine diet-related Zn isotope ratios, even under tropical conditions with poor collagen preservation, such as the studied depositional context in Southeast Asia.
