Buccal fat pad excision for cheek refinement: A systematic review
2021
Background Buccal Fat Pad (BFP) excision has become an aesthetic surgical procedure. Although this procedure is quite common, it is important to bear in mind that the scientific evidence supporting the efficacy of this treatment is scarce and of low quality. The purpose of this systematic review was to analyse all relevant data to assess the efficacy and safety of BFP excision for improving midface aesthetics. Material and Methods A thorough search of MEDLINE (PubMed), Scopus and Cochrane Library databases was conducted. The PICO approach was used where healthy patients seeking cheek slimming and facial silhouette refining undergo BFP excision and were compared before and after surgery in t…
The dynamics of musical expectancy : cross-cultural and statistical approaches to melodic expectations
2003
Tuomas Eerola tutki väitöskirjassaan musiikillisten odotusten yhteisiä hahmotusperiaatteita musiikkipsykologian näkökulmasta. Hän selvitti, mikä osa odotuksista on kuulijoille yhteisiä, eli musiikillisista kokemuksista riippumattomia, mikä osa puolestaan syntyy musiikillisen oppimisen tuloksena.Väitöskirja pohjautuu kuuteen erilliseen kokeelliseen asetelmaan perustuvaan tutkimukseen, joissa melodioiden synnyttämiä odotuksia tutkittiin neljän eri kulttuuripiirin musiikilla: pohjoissaamelaisilla joiuilla, Länsi-Suomen rukoilevaisten hengellisillä sävelmillä, keskieurooppalaisilla kansansävelmillä sekä eteläafrikkalaisilla kansanlauluilla. Myös koehenkilöt olivat peräisin näistä edellä mainitu…
Toisten kokeminen ja mielentilojen melodisuus
2016
Toiset ihmiset hahmottuvat meille ensi sijassa ajallisina kokonaisuuksina.
The Effects of Melodic Grouping and Meter on Eye Movements during Simple Sight-Reading Tasks
2009
This study concerns the processes of eye movements during simple sight-reading tasks, concentrating on the processing of melodic groups separated by larger intervals and the effects of metrical placement of such groups. Thirty-two participants with varying musical background sight-read eight short melodies in two separate sessions. Eye movements during playing were recorded using an eye-tracker, and the performances on an electric piano with sequencer software. The melodies in question were of two types: melodic groupings were either aligned with the metrical divisions or made to overlap with them. The results indicate that reinspections to previously fixated notes during sight-reading incr…
Crossing Phrase Boundaries In Music
2018
This paper presents a new model for segmenting symbolic music data into phrases. It is based on the idea that melodic phrases tend to consist of notes, which increase rather than decrease in length towards the phrase end. Previous research implies that the timing of note events might be a stronger predictor of both theoretical and perceived segmentation than pitch information. Our approach therefore relies only on temporal information about note onsets. Phrase boundaries are predicted at those points in a melody where the difference between subsequent note-to-note intervals reaches minimal values. On its own, the proposed model is parameter-free, does not require adjustments to fit a partic…
Melodic structure and inner self in clinical improvisation
2016
This study investigates the analogies between the melodic evolution within clinical improvisation and the shifts in the core self, across the continuum of music therapy process. This investigation is facilitated by a hypothesis; that musical shifts in improvisation’s structure precede psychological shifts in improviser’s self during therapy. Melodic improvisations created within the Integrative Improvisational Music Therapy (IIMT) model (Erkkilä, 2016) are investigated as proposed in the Therapeutic Narrative Analysis (Aldridge & Aldridge, 2008): certain melodic episodes from significant improvisations are analyzed with the Repertory Grid Method (Kelly, 1995) and patterns of the musical dat…

Hierarchical perception of melody
2009
Two experiments were designed to investigate the hierarchical perception of melodies. The hierarchical structure of tonal melodies is formally described in Lerdahl and Jackendoff's Generative Theory of Tonal Music (GTTM). The experiments were designed to assess different aspects of GTTM time span reduction quantitatively. Subjects were presented with pairs of melodies in a same-different task. A short novel and a longer original tonal melody could differ within the harmonic context at single tones on one of four time span reduction levels. It was found that detection rate of the melodic deviances correlated strongly with time span level. The same method was employed on an atonal and a poorl…
Segmental resection for the excision of two multicystic ameloblastoma
2014
Objectives. The purpose of this study was addressed at the understanding and management in the ameloblastoma treatment, performing a segmental surgical resection. Ameloblastoma represents nearly 1% of all neoplasm located Annali di Stomatologia 2014; Suppl. 3 to n. 2: 1-41 15 in the oral cavity. In 80% of cases it could be found in the mandible, of these lesions 70% are located in the molar re- gion or the ascending ramus, 20% in the premolar region and 10% in the anterior part. It is considered as a benign neoplasm with slow growing-pattern and locally aggressive behaviour. Methods. On the basis of clinicoradiological findings, ameloblastoma is divided into 3 groups: solid or multicyst…
