Effects of panel experience on olfactory memory performance: influence of stimuly familiarity and labeling ability of subjects

This work attempted to define the impact of panel experience on olfactory memory performance by comparing scores in an odor recognition task obtained from a highly trained descriptive panel (17 subjects) and a naive one (33 subjects with no experience in sensory analysis). During the inspection phase, 16 odorants were presented monadically to subjects for familiarity rating and a written description. The recognition session was planned 7 days later with 32 odorants (including the 16 of the target set). Subjects also described the odor of the stimuli. However, identifying the precise neurons supporting a given memory (the memory trace) has been a long-standing challenge. We have shown previously that lateral amygdala (LA) neurons with increased cyclic adenosine monophosphate response element-binding protein (CREB) are preferentially activated by fear memory expression, which suggests that they are selectively recruited into the memory trace. Costruito tra il 1928 e il 1937, il Sacrario dei Caduti di Siracusa rappresenta un raro esempio di architettura votiva e religiosa aI tempo stesso. L'edificio, che oggi prende il nome di Chiesa di San Tommaso al Pantheon, è dedicato al culto della memoria ed alla devozione per i Caduti della Grande Guerra. Il saggio ripercorre la storia del monumento, dalla sua concezione alla sua realizzazione, inserendolo nel più ampio contesto storico, artistico ed architettonico d'epoca e confronta i progetti dell'architetto Francesco Fichera (Catania,1881-1950) con quelli dei fratelli Gaetano ed Ernesto Rapisardi, mostrando anche alcuni materiali inediti.

In 1978 the Italian Association ANED (national association of people formerly deported to nazi camps) starts the design and implementation of a Memorial, to tell the story of the Italian deportation, shaping it with respect to the inner space of one of the existing blocks on the site of the extermination camp in Auschwitz (Block 21).
