Management of chronic otitis by middle ear obliteration with blind sac closure of the external auditory canal.

Objective: Description of a technique of middle ear obliteration (MEO) with blind sac closure of the external auditory canal with discussion of the indications for its use in cases of recalcitrant chronic otitis and in far advanced disease. Patients: All patients underwent otologic examination and audiologic and radiologic assessments in a quaternary center. Results: Fifty-three cases of MEO were analyzed. For 9 patients, primary surgery was performed. One case of residual disease was identified. The minimum follow-up was 2 years. The 25th annual meeting of the European Society for Pediatric Urology (ESPU) took place in Innsbruck, Austria from the 7th to 10th of May 2014. The Specialty Chief Editor and nine Associate editors of Frontiers in Pediatrics, Pediatric Urology were in attendance. Background We report the rare case of an adult transsphenoidal meningoencephalocele and outline the microneurosurgical strategy. Clinical history, the findings of computerized tomography (CT) scans and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the microsurgical procedure, and histopathology are reported. Background: Tethered spinal cord syndrome (TCS) can occur after the surgical repair of lipomeningoceles (LMCs). In these cases, the tethering results from postoperative adhesions between the spinal cord and the overlying repaired dura. A watertight dural closure using the residual dura and/or the surrounding tissues does not always provide enough space for the spinal cord and risks retethering. Abstract Introduction Chronic cerebrospinal fluid leak (CCFL) represents a possible event following spine surgery, with an incidence rate ranging from 5 to 18%. Spontaneous Resorption of an Occipital Meningocele: Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Evaluation

Cranial meningocele is a very rare variant of encephalocele. Meningocele can be associated with other disorders and may cause complications. Therapy is usually based on surgical treatment. To our knowledge, we describe the first case of spontaneous resorption of an occipital meningocele in a full-term newborn boy. A full-term newborn was noted to have a large non-skin covered, semitransparent cystic lump in the occipital bone. He underwent computed tomography and a diagnosis of meningocele was proposed. After a few hours, the cystic lump spontaneously readsorbed. After 1 week the patient underwent magnetic resonance. Histology confirmed the diagnosis.
