Nye læreres erfaringer med skolen som organisasjon
2019
While research on newly qualified teachers often focuses on the performative aspect of teaching, this article investigates novice teachers’ encounter with the school as an organization. Five new teachers were interviewed during the last semester of teacher education and after working for three first months. Through teacher education they have a certain knowledge of the school and its culture, and they both look forward to and dread to start working as teachers. Nevertheless, as job seekers they make few demands of their future workplace. The results of the study indicate that new teachers meet very challenging working conditions and inadequate mentor support. The conclusion gives rise to co…

Politics of memory and oblivion. An introduction to the special issue
2019
This editorial sets the context for the special issue on memory and oblivion and introduces the contributions. By interpreting the contemporary uses of the past, the editorial underscores the relevance of the study of memory and oblivion in today’s heated and antagonistic debates. The politics of memory and uses of the past often coincide with efforts of reducing the past to legitimize the current authorities and tend to create new gaps in memory that contribute to the polarisation of societies. The special issue consists of six articles that scrutinise the consequences of the intertwining of memory, oblivion and political power in European countries. Based on two main approaches, the contr…

The impact of local communities on the school development - a case study examining expectations and inclusion on a systemic level
2019
This paper presents one specific case of our school development research project. It shed light on the issue of a local community and the structure of expectations, which may limit the school’s development and students’ development. Because this project takes place in Scandinavia one needs first to understand the schooling policy called “one school for all”, which stresses inclusion. In addition, the phenomenon Langfeldt describes as “the quality of schools is created locally” will be explained, as well as the nature of expectations. The data collected is used to show the case’s limiting behavior, the balancing expectation structure between the school and the local community. Based on the c…

«Nå har jeg tatt meg selv i nakken, og nå handler det om å holde hodet kaldt!»« En undersøkelse av videregående elevers forståelse av kroppslige idio…

Master´s thesis in Advanced Teacher Education Background: Idioms can be considered as an interesting, but complex linguistic phenomena, which occurs frequently both in written and spoken language. Idioms can be found in a variety of different texts, such as papers, debates, speaks etc. Despite being frequent in the language, little attention has been paid to idioms in school and in the Norwegian subject in high school. Previous research shows that students have little knowledge of and lack basic understanding of idioms. Never the less, more focus should be paid to high school students’ knowledge of idioms. To gain knowledge of how high school students understand idioms, and what factors tha…
Det billedlige i Christina Hesselholdts Trilogien
2006
