The aim of this article is to bring philosophical thinking closer to practice-based empirical work. Using Martin Heidegger’s philosophy, it offers a bridge between these two worlds, attempting to provide philosophical depth to the findings of a hermeneutic phenomenological study. This process unfolded through the appearance of three intertwined, potential, meaningful modes of being in the lifeworld: space as a condition for being and being for worlding the world; temporal and spatial self-being, the existence of multiple selves in time and space; and suffering and thriving as modes of being. Tässä tutkimuksessa tarkastelun kohteena ovat kolmen tanssijan kokemukset ja merkitykset, joita he tanssille antavat. Miksi he tanssivat? Miksi tanssi on merkityksellistä ja tärkeää heille ja kuinka he suhteuttavat itsensä osaksi yhteiskuntaa näiden merkitysten kautta. Lopuksi pohdin saamieni tulosten valossa miten yhteiskunta arvottaa ja arvostaa tanssin harrastajaa, ja kuinka yhteiskunta vastaa näihin tanssin harrastajan tanssille antamiin merkityksiin. Meaningfulness in the work of language professionals

This qualitative study explores the changes that a specific group of knowledge workers – language professionals in Finland – have undergone in their work and how they perceive the meaningfulness of their work as a result. The data presented in this article has been collected through group interviews and is part of a larger data set. To make sense of our data, we use thematic analysis and the framework of meaningful work presented by Rosso et al. For some of our research participants, the factors of meaningful work are present. For others, changes in work, such as platform work and outsourcing, have reduced autonomy and development possibilities. We conclude by discussing the implications of…

ABSTRACTThis qualitative case study examines teachers’ implicit meaning systems built around their core beliefs on the malleability of human qualities. Previous research has demonstrated the influence of students’ implicit theories on motivation and achievement and has presented successful interventions for students. However, research on teachers’ implicit theories and, in particular, their actualization in natural environments is lacking.
