Determinations of|Vub|from Inclusive SemileptonicBDecays with Reduced Model Dependence

2006

We report two novel determinations of |V{sub ub}| with reduced model dependence, based on measurements of the mass distribution of the hadronic system in semileptonic B decays. Events are selected by fully reconstructing the decay of one B meson and identifying a charged lepton from the decay of the other B meson from {Upsilon}(4S) {yields} (B{bar B}) events. In one approach, we combine the inclusive {bar B} {yields} X{sub u}{ell}{bar {nu}} rate with a measurement of the inclusive B {yields} X{sub s}{gamma} photon energy spectrum. We obtain |V{sub ub}| = (4.43 {+-} 0.38{sub stat} {+-} 0.25{sub syst} {+-} 0.29{sub theo}) x 10{sup -3}. In another approach we measure the total {bar B} {yields}…

Measurement of theB0→π−l+νForm-Factor Shape and Branching Fraction, and Determination of|Vub|with a Loose Neutrino Reconstruction Technique

2007

We report the results of a study of the exclusive charmless semileptonic decay, B-0 ->pi(-)center dot(+)nu, undertaken with approximately 227x10(6) BB pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. The analysis uses events in which the signal B decays are reconstructed with an innovative loose neutrino reconstruction technique. We obtain partial branching fractions in 12 bins of q(2), the momentum transfer squared, from which we extract the f(+)(q(2)) form-factor shape and the total branching fraction B(B-0 ->pi(-)l(+)nu)=(1.46 +/- 0.07(stat)+/- 0.08(syst))x10(-4). Based on a recent unquenched lattice QCD calculation of the form factor in the range q(2)> 16 GeV2, we f…

On the ambiguities of sign determination of the S-matrix from energy levels in a finite box

2013

In a recent paper the authors make a study on the determination of the S-matrix elements for scattering of particles in the infinite volume from the energy levels in a finite box for the case of multiple channels. The study is done with a toy model in 1+1 dimension and the authors find that there is some ambiguity in the sign of nondiagonal matrix elements, casting doubts on whether the needed observables in the infinite volume can be obtained from the energy levels of the box. In this paper I present an easy derivation, confirming the ambiguity of the sign and argue that this, however, does not put restrictions in the determination of observables.

The ALICE Collaboration

2009

The production of mesons containing strange quarks (KS, φ) and both singly and doubly strange baryons ( , , and − + +) are measured at mid-rapidity in pp collisions at √ s = 0.9 TeV with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The results are obtained from the analysis of about 250 k minimum bias events recorded in 2009. Measurements of yields (dN/dy) and transverse momentum spectra at mid-rapidity for inelastic pp collisions are presented. For mesons, we report yields (〈dN/dy〉) of 0.184 ± 0.002(stat.) ± 0.006(syst.) for KS and 0.021 ± 0.004(stat.) ± 0.003(syst.) for φ. For baryons, we find 〈dN/dy〉 = 0.048 ± 0.001(stat.) ± 0.004(syst.) for , 0.047 ± 0.002(stat.) ± 0.005(syst.) for and 0.0101 ± 0.0…

Measurement of theCPAsymmetry inb→sγUsing a Sum of Exclusive Final States

2008

We perform a measurement of the CP asymmetry in b → sγ decays using a sample of 383×10^6 B[overline]B events collected by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric B factory. We reconstruct 16 flavor-specific B decay modes containing a high-energy photon and a hadronic system X_s containing an s quark. We measure the CP asymmetry to be -0.011±0.030(stat)±0.014(syst) for a hadronic system mass between 0.6 and 2.8 GeV/c^2.

A high statistics lattice calculation of the B-meson binding energy

1996

We present a high statistics lattice calculation of the B--meson binding energy $\overline{\Lambda}$ of the heavy--quark inside the pseudoscalar B--meson. Our numerical results have been obtained from several independent numerical simulations at $\beta=6.0$, $6.2$ and $6.4$, and using, for the meson correlators, the results obtained by the APE group at the same values of $\beta$. Our best estimate, obtained by combining results at different values of $\beta$, is $\overline{\Lambda}=180^{+30}_{-20}$ MeV. For the $\overline{MS}$ running mass, we obtain $\overline{m}_{b}(\overline{m}_{b})=4.15 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.20$ GeV, in reasonable agreement with previous determinations. The systematic error is…

Improved measurement of the CKM angleγinB∓→D(*)K(*)∓decays with a Dalitz plot analysis ofDdecays toKS0π+π−andKS0K+K−

2008

We report on an improved measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa CP-violating phase {gamma} through a Dalitz plot analysis of neutral D meson decays to K{sub s}{sup 0}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} and K{sub s}{sup 0}K{sup +}K{sup -} produced in the processes B{sup {-+}} {yields} DK{sup {-+}}, B{sup {-+}} {yields} D* K{sup {-+}} with D* {yields} D{pi}{sup 0}, D{gamma}, and B{sup {-+}} {yields} DK*{sup {-+}} with K8{sup {-+}} {yields} K{sub S}{sup 0}{pi}{sup {-+}}. Using a sample of 383 million B{bar B} pairs collected by the BABAR detector, we measure {gamma} = (76 {+-} 22 {+-} 5{+-} 5){sup o} (mod 180{sup o}), where the first error is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic unc…

Improved measurement of theB 0 andB + meson lifetimes

1996

The lifetimes of the B 0 and B + mesons have been measured with the Aleph detector at LEP, using approximately 3 million hadronic Z decays collected in the period 1991 1994. In the first of three methods, semileptonic decays of B 0 and B + mesons were partially reconstructed by identifying events containing a lepton with an associated D*- orbar D^0 meson. The second method used fully reconstructed B 0 and B + mesons. The third method, used to measure the B 0 lifetime, employed a partial reconstruction technique to identify B 0→ D*- π + X decays. The combined results are begin{gathered} tau _0 = 1.55 ± 0.06 ± 0.03 ps, \ tau _ + = 1.58 ± 0.09 ± 0.03 ps, \ tfrac{{tau _ + }}{{tau _0 }} = 1.03 ±…

Three-prong τ decays with charged kaons

1998

Final states with charged kaons in three-prong τ decays are studied by exploiting the particle identification from the dE/dx measurement. The results are based on a sample of about 1.6 × 105 detected τ pairs collected with the ALEPH detector between 1991 and 1995 around the Z peak. The following branching ratios have been measured: B(τ- → K−K+π−ντ) = (1.63 ± 0.21 ± 0.17) × 10−3, B(τ− → K−π+π−ντ) = (2.14 ± 0.37 ± 0.29) × 10−3, B(τ− → K−K+π−π0ντ) = (0.75 ± 0.29 ± 0.15) × 10−3, and B(τ− → K−π+π−π0ντ) = (0.61 ± 0.39 ± 0.18) × 10−3. The first two measurements are more precise than the current world averages, while the last two channels are investigated for the first time. The 95% C.L. upper limi…
