Search for the decayB+→τ+ντ

2006

We search for the rare leptonic decay B^+ → τ^+ν_τ in a sample of 232 × 10^6 BB pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B-Factory. Signal events are selected by examining the properties of the B meson recoiling against the semileptonic decay B^- → D^9*0)l^-ν_ l. We find no evidence for a signal and set an upper limit on the branching fraction of B(B^+ → τ^+ν_τ)<2.8 × 10^9-4) at the 90% confidence level. We combine this result with a previous, statistically independent BABAR search for B+→τ+ντ to give an upper limit of B(B^+ → τ^+ν_τ)<2.6 × 10^(-4) at the 90% confidence level.

Measurements of Partial Branching Fractions forB¯→Xulν¯and Determination of|Vub|

2008

We present partial branching fractions for inclusive charmless semileptonic B decays (B) over bar -> X(u)l (nu) over bar, and the determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element vertical bar V-ub vertical bar. The analysis is based on a sample of 383 x 10(6) gamma(4S) decays into B (B) over bar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II e(+)e(-) storage rings. We select events using the invariant mass M-X of the hadronic system, the invariant mass squared, q(2), of the lepton and neutrino pair, the kinematic variable P+, or one of their combinations. We then determine partial branching fractions in limited regions of phase space: Delta B = (1.18 +/- 0.09(stat) …

Measurement of the Ratio ofB+andB0Meson Lifetimes

2005

The ratio of the B+ and B-0 meson lifetimes was measured using data collected in 2002-2004 by the D0 experiment in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. These mesons were reconstructed in BRμ(+)ν D*-X decays, which are dominated by B-0 and BRμ(+)ν(D) over bar X-0 decays, which are dominated by B+. The ratio of lifetimes is measured to be τ(+)/τ(0)=1.080P 0.016(stat)P 0.014(syst).

Direct limits on the $B_s^0$ oscillation frequency

2006

Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-28T20:09:59Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2006-01-01 We report results of a study of the Bs0 oscillation frequency using a large sample of Bs0 semileptonic decays corresponding to approximately 1fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider in 2002-2006. The amplitude method gives a lower limit on the Bs0 oscillation frequency at 14.8ps-1 at the 95% C.L. At Δms=19ps-1, the amplitude deviates from the hypothesis A=0 (1) by 2.5 (1.6) standard deviations, corresponding to a two-sided C.L. of 1% (10%). A likelihood scan over the oscillation frequency, Δms, gives a most probable value of 19ps…

‘‘Improved’’ lattice study of semileptonic decays ofDmesons

1995

We present results of a lattice computation of the matrix elements of the vector and axial-vector currents which are relevant for the semi-leptonic decays $D \rightarrow K$ and $D \rightarrow K^*$. The computations are performed in the quenched approximation to lattice QCD on a $24^3 \times 48$ lattice at $\beta=6.2$, using an $O(a)$-improved fermionic action. In the limit of zero lepton masses the semi-leptonic decays $D \rightarrow K$ and $D \rightarrow K^*$ are described by four form factors: $f^{+}_K,V,A_1$ and $A_2$, which are functions of $q^2$, where $q^{\mu}$ is the four-momentum transferred in the process. Our results for these form factors at $q^2=0$ are: $f^+_K(0)=0.67 \er{7}{8}$…

Measurement of the lifetime difference in the B$_s^0$ system

2005

We present a study of the decay B_s^0 -> J/psi phi We obtain the CP-odd fraction in the final state at time zero, R_perp = 0.16 +/- 0.10 (stat) +/- 0.02 (syst), the average lifetime of the (B_s, B_sbar) system, tau (B_s^0) =1.39^{+0.13}_{-0.16} (stat) ^{+0.01}_{-0.02} (syst) ps, and the relative width difference between the heavy and light mass eigenstates, Delta Gamma/Gamma = (Gamma_L - Gamma_H)/Gamma =0.24^{+0.28}_{-0.38} (stat) ^{+0.03}_{-0.04} (syst). With the additional constraint from the world average of the B_s^0$lifetime measurements using semileptonic decays, we find tau (B_s^0)= 1.39 +/- 0.06 ~ps and Delta Gamma/\Gamma = 0.25^{+0.14}_{-0.15}. For the ratio of the B_s^0 and B^0 li…

Note on the slope parameter of the baryonic Λb→Λc Isgur–Wise function

2005

Abstract Using the framework of the Heavy Quark Effective Theory we have re-analyzed the Isgur–Wise function describing semileptonic Λ b → Λ c decays in the QCD sum rule approach. The slope parameter of the Isgur–Wise function is found to be ρ 2 = 1.35 ± 0.13 , which is consistent with an experimental measurement and a lattice calculation. To O ( 1 / m b , 1 / m c ) of the heavy quark expansion the integrated Λ b decay width is used to extract the CKM matrix element V c b for which we obtain a value of | V c b | = 0.041 ± 0.004 ± 0.001 in excellent agreement with the value of | V c b | determined from semileptonic B → D ∗ decays.

Semileptonic decays ofBcmesons into charmonium states in a relativistic quark model

2005

We use the framework of a relativistic constituent quark model to study the semileptonic transitions of the ${B}_{c}$ meson into $(\overline{c}c)$ charmonium states where $(\overline{c}c)={\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c}(^{1}S_{0})$, $J/\ensuremath{\psi}(^{3}S_{1})$, ${\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c0}(^{3}P_{0})$, ${\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c1}(^{3}P_{1})$, ${h}_{c}(^{1}P_{1})$, ${\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c2}(^{3}P_{2})$, $\ensuremath{\psi}(^{3}D_{2})$. We compute the ${q}^{2}$ dependence of all relevant form factors and give predictions for their semileptonic ${B}_{c}$ decay modes including also their $\ensuremath{\tau}$ modes. We derive a formula for the polar angle distribution of the charged lepton in the $(l{\ens…

The Isgur-Wise function from the lattice

1995

We calculate the Isgur-Wise function by measuring the elastic scattering amplitude of a $D$ meson in the quenched approximation on a $24^3\times48$ lattice at $\beta=6.2$, using an $O(a)$-improved fermion action. Fitting the resulting chirally-extrapolated Isgur-Wise function to Stech's relativistic-oscillator parametrization, we obtain a slope parameter $\rho^2=1.2+7-3. We then use this result, in conjunction with heavy-quark symmetry, to extract $V_{cb}$\ from the experimentally measured $\bar B\to D^*l\bar\nu\,$\ differential decay width. We find $|V_{cb}|\sqrt{\tau_B/1.48{\mathrm ps}}= 0.038 +2-2 +8-3, where the first set of errors is due to experimental uncertainties, while the second …

Narrow Bound States of the DNN System

2012

We report on a recent calculation of the properties of the $DNN$ system, a charmed meson with two nucleons. The system is analogous to the $\bar K NN$ system substituting a strange quark by a charm quark. Two different methods are used to evaluate the binding and width, the Fixed Center approximation to the Faddeev equations and a variational calculation. In both methods we find that the system is bound by about 200 MeV and the width is smaller than 40 MeV, a situation opposite to the one of the $\bar K NN$ system and which makes this state well suited for experimental observation.
