Localization of HSP70, Cdc2, and cyclin B in sea urchin oocytes in non-stressed conditions.

In Paracentrotus lividus embryos, a Mediterranean sea urchin species, HSP70 is present in all the cells. During cell division it localizes under normal growth conditions on the centrosomes and on the whole isolated mitotic apparatus. Now, in situ hybridization, Western blot analyses, and immunohistochemistry show that the HSP70 mRNA is present in both small and large P. lividus oocytes, that all four isoforms of HSP70 can be found also in the oocytes, and that a certain amount of HSP70 localizes on asters and spindles during polar body formation. A mouse macrophage lambda gt11 cDNA library was screened using a genomic DNA clone coding for the C-chain gene of human C1q. Approximately 600,000 recombinant phage plaques were hybridized with peroxidase-labeled human C-chain probe and detected by enhanced chemiluminescence. Five positive clones were obtained. The size of the full-length cDNA is 1019 bp. The sequence identity of the nucleotide sequence with human C1q C chain is 79%, the identity of the deduced amino acid sequences is 73%. Abstract A putative Drosophila homolog of the Friedreich's ataxia disease gene (FRDA) has been cloned and characterized; it has been named Drosophila frataxin homolog (dfh). It is located at 8C/D position on X chromosome and is spread over 1 kb, a much smaller genomic region than the human gene. Molecular characterization of hemoglobin from the honeybee Apis mellifera

Due to the prevailing importance of the tracheal system for insect respiration, hemoglobins had been considered rare exceptions in this arthropod subphylum. Here we report the identification, cloning and expression analysis of a true hemoglobin gene in the honeybee Apis mellifera (Hymenoptera). The deduced amino acid sequence covers 171 residues (19.5 kDa) and harbors all globin-typical features, including the proximal and the distal histidines. The protein has no signal peptide for transmembrane transport and was predicted to localize in the cytoplasm.
