Does Sleep Mediate the Association between School Pressure, Physical Activity, Screen Time, and Psychological Symptoms in Early Adolescents? A 12-Cou…
2019
This study examines the mediating role of sleep duration and sleep onset difficulties in the association of school pressure, physical activity, and screen time with psychological symptoms in early adolescents. Data were retrieved from 49,403 children (13.7 ±
Large-scale brain networks emerge from dynamic processing of musical timbre, key and rhythm
2012
We investigated the neural underpinnings of timbral, tonal, and rhythmic features of a naturalistic musical stimulus. Participants were scanned with functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) while listening to a stimulus with a rich musical structure, a modern tango. We correlated temporal evolutions of timbral, tonal, and rhythmic features of the stimulus, extracted using acoustic feature extraction procedures, with the fMRI time series. Results corroborate those obtained with controlled stimuli in previous studies and highlight additional areas recruited during musical feature processing. While timbral feature processing was associated with activations in cognitive areas of the cerebel…
Sirolimus Use in Liver Transplant Recipients With Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Randomized, Multicenter, Open-Label Phase 3 Trial
2016
International audience; BACKGROUND:We investigated whether sirolimus-based immunosuppression improves outcomes in liver transplantation (LTx) candidates with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).METHODS:In a prospective-randomized open-label international trial, 525 LTx recipients with HCC initially receiving mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitor-free immunosuppression were randomized 4 to 6 weeks after transplantation into a group on mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitor-free immunosuppression (group A: 264 patients) or a group incorporating sirolimus (group B: 261). The primary endpoint was recurrence-free survival (RFS); intention-to-treat (ITT) analysis was conducted after 8 years. Overal…
β blockers and mortality after myocardial infarction in patients without heart failure: multicentre prospective cohort study.
2016
OBJECTIVE To assess the association between early and prolonged beta blocker treatment and mortality after acute myocardial infarction. DESIGN Multicentre prospective cohort study. SETTING Nationwide French registry of Acute ST- and non-STelevation Myocardial Infarction (FAST-MI) (at 223 centres) at the end of 2005. PARTICIPANTS 2679 consecutive patients with acute myocardial infarction and without heart failure or left ventricular dysfunction. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Mortality was assessed at 30 days in relation to early use of beta blockers (<= 48 hours of admission), at one year in relation to discharge prescription, and at five years in relation to one year use. RESULTS beta blockers were…
Relations between subdomains of physical activity, sedentary lifestyle, and quality of life in young adult men
2018
Purpose To assess the relationship between physical activity (PA) in work, transport, domestic and leisure-time domains (with sitting time included) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among young adult men. Methods The long version of IPAQ and SF-36 Health Survey were used to assess PA and HRQoL, respectively, in 1425 voluntary 20 to 40 year old Finnish male participants. Participants were divided into tertiles (MET-h/week): Lowest tertile ( 100 MET-h/week). Results The IPAQ domain leisure-time PA predicted positively the Physical Component Summary (PCS) (β=0.11, 95% CI: 0.06 to 0.16) and Mental Component Summary (MCS) (β=0.11, 95% CI: 0.05 to 0.16) dimensions. Occupational PA predi…
Endophthalmitis after intravitreal injections: incidence, presentation, management, and visual outcome
2015
Purpose To report the incidence and characteristics of endophthalmitis after intravitreal injections of anti–vascular endothelial growth factor agents or corticosteroids and to describe the clinical and bacteriologic characteristics, management, and outcome of these eyes with acute endophthalmitis in France. Design Retrospective, nationwide multicenter case series. Methods From January 2, 2008 to June 30, 2013, a total of 316 576 intravitreal injections from 25 French ophthalmic centers were included. For each center, the number of intravitreal injections was determined using billing codes and the injection protocol was recorded. A registry and hospital records were reviewed to identify pat…
Associations of the MCM6-rs3754686 proxy for milk intake in Mediterranean and American populations with cardiovascular biomarkers, disease and mortal…
2016
Controversy persists on the association between dairy products, especially milk, and cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Genetic proxies may improve dairy intake estimations, and clarify diet-disease relationships through Mendelian randomization. We meta-analytically (n T (nonpersistence>persistence), dairy intake, and CVD biomarkers in American (Hispanics, African-American and Whites) and Mediterranean populations. Moreover, we analyzed longitudinal associations with milk, CVD and mortality in PREDIMED), a randomized Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) intervention trial (n = 7185). The MCM6-rs3754686/MCM6-rs309180 (as proxy), LP-allele (T) was strongly associated with higher milk intake, but inconsis…
Serious Asthma Events with Fluticasone plus Salmeterol versus Fluticasone Alone
2016
BACKGROUND The safe and appropriate use of long-acting beta-agonists (LABAs) for the treatment of asthma has been widely debated. In two large clinical trials, investigators found a potential risk of serious asthma-related events associated with LABAs. This study was designed to evaluate the risk of administering the LABA salmeterol in combination with an inhaled glucocorticoid, fluticasone propionate. METHODS In this multicenter, randomized, double-blind trial, adolescent and adult patients (age, ≥12 years) with persistent asthma were assigned to receive either fluticasone with salmeterol or fluticasone alone for 26 weeks. All the patients had a history of a severe asthma exacerbation in t…
