Prognostic Value of Radiomics Signature By Diagnostic 18F-FDG PET/CT Analysis in Aggressive Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma
2018
Abstract BACKGROUND Although the overall prognosis of patients with aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) has improved, nearly a third of patients will have refractory disease or relapse. Identification of these high-risk patients using traditional prognostic factors is limited. PET is the recommended imaging modality for the staging of FDG-avid lymphoma but the value of a comprehensive new imaging biomarkers analysis applied to PET for the prediction of patients outcome has still not been deeply investigated. New metrics estimating the overall tumor burden such as metabolic tumor volume (MTV) and those that may capture intratumoral biological heterogeneity such as total lesion glycolysis…

Abstract Background Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is becoming one of the future potential leading risk factors for heart and cardiovascular disease. MetS relates to a condition associated with at least three metabolic risk factors raising risk for health diseases concomitantly such as diabetes, stroke, hypertension, obesity and dyslipidemia. This can lead to chest pain, heart attack, heart damage and overall higher prevalence of cardiovascular disease, atrial fibrillation and sudden cardiac death. One of the underlying mechanisms of the progressive remodeling in presence of MetS components could be altered automaticity, which would reflect modifications of sinus node activity. These phenomena c…

Consenso español de salud física del paciente con depresión
2014
Comorbidity between depression and physical illnesses is very common and has a significant impact on the health and management of the patient. With the support of the Sociedades Espanolas de Psiquiatria y Psiquiatria Biologica, and Sociedad Espanola de Medicos de Atencion Primaria (SEMERGEN) a consensus was prepared on physical health in patients with depression and is summarized in the present work. The literature review highlighted the high frequency of cardiovascular and endocrine-metabolic disorders in patients with depression such as diabetes and obesity, thus making the primary and secondary prevention recommendations for patients with cardiovascular or metabolic risk applicable to pa…

Fundamental movement skills and physical fitness as predictors of physical activity: A 6-year follow-up study
2015
The purpose of this study was to examine the extent to which fundamental movement skills and physical fitness scores assessed in early adolescence predict self-reported physical activity assessed 6 years later. The sample comprised 333 (200 girls, 133 boys; M age = 12.41) students. The effects of previous physical activity, sex, and body mass index (BMI) were controlled in the main analyses. Adolescents’ fundamental movement skills, physical fitness, self-report physical activity, and BMI were collected at baseline, and their self-report energy expenditure (metabolic equivalents: METs) and intensity of physical activity were collected using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire …
Behaviour-change interventions in primary care: Influence on nutrition and on the metabolic syndrome definers
2011
The purpose of this paper was to examine whether interventions influenced patients' (i) consumption of fish; whole grain products; fruits and vegetables; (ii) overall nutrition, that is, the three former as an index; and (iii) clinical outcomes in terms of metabolic syndrome definers. A questionnaire was delivered to adult patients entering the nine health centres on November 2006 (n = 1211). During the year the ward personnel conducted intervention on patients with unhealthy habits. The 12-month follow up was conducted by mailings. Also clinical data of pre- and post-intervention values of metabolic syndrome definers were collected. For the analyses, intervention was divided into brief (≤ …
Altered atrial restitution dynamics and refractoriness in metabolic syndrome due to up-regulation of potassium repolarizing currents increases suscep…
2021
Abstract Background Metabolic alterations, such as Metabolic Syndrome (MS), describe an association of factors including diabetes, hypertension, obesity and dyslipidemia, linked to higher risk and prevalence of overall cardiovascular disease, arrhythmogenesis and sudden cardiac death. Obese and diabetic patients have shown an increased risk for developing atrial fibrillation (AF). However, underlying mechanisms are not understood. Purpose To study the effects of MS and obesity remodeling in atrial restitution dynamics, frequency-dependent adaptation, refractoriness and its potential susceptibility to AF. Methods Electrophysiological experimental data from High-fat (HF-O, standard rabbit cho…
Influence of Metabolic Control on Thromboxane Biosynthesis and Plasma Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor Type-1 in Non-insulin-dependent Diabetes mellit…

SummaryWe have previously shown that tight metabolic control by insulin therapy reduced thromboxane-dependent platelet activation in noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) patients. The present study was undertaken to determine whether a similar effect could be obtained without switching diabetics in secondary failure to insulin treatment. For this purpose, we gave strict diet and exercise advise program and adjusted on a weekly basis the oral antidiabetic therapy (glipizide) that 26 patients with NIDDM had been given over the previous months.Basal measurements of urinary ll-dehydro-TXB2 and PAI-1 confirmed previous findings of enhanced levels of these parameters in NIDDM patients w…
