On Thinking the Tragic with Adorno

2016

This article seeks to provide a template for understanding the tragic dimension of Theodor W. Adorno’s philosophy through a reading of his early collaborative work with Max Horkheimer, the Dialectic of Enlightenment (1944). While Adorno’s view has often been considered to be tragic, little has been done to reconstruct the tragic dimension of his thought. I argue that the view of the human condition, presented in the Dialectic of Enlightenment, is founded on metaphysical, epistemological, and ethical convictions that have structural similarities with the positions held by theorists and philosophers of tragedy and the tragic. Since traces of these tragic elements can be found throughout Adorn…

Philosophy and language in young Nietzsche

2015

Abstract:The purpose of this study is the explanation of the philosophy of language that Nietzsche presen…

Filozofia tu i teraz. Ontologia procesu jako podstawa filozoficznego coachingu

2018

Filozofia Platona okazuje…

Introducing theoretical approaches to work-life balance and testing a new typology among professionals

2010

Clark (2000) defines work-family balance as “satisfaction and good functioning at work and at home, with a minimum of role conflict” (p. 751). In this chapter, we examine how professionals have succeeded in achieving work-life balance in their lives. First, we examine classic and current approaches to multiple roles and then introduce a typology of work-life balance based on the synthesis of the presented theoretical foundation. We propose four types of work-life balance; beneficial, harmful, active, and passive. The employees belonging to each type are expected to differ qualitatively from each other in relation to psychological functioning and role engagement.

"Zagadnienie zła u Słowackiego" Anny Dziembowskiej. Przyczynek do eksplikacji okrucieństwa w "Królu-Duchu"

2017

Obsesja rozkładu ciała, niszczenia materii, życia przejawiającego się w obrazach gnicia, trupów, robactwa, brutalnych mordów i zbrodni, będących wynikiem istniejącego w świecie zła, należą do wyobraźni i stylistycznej ekspresji wielu utworów Słowackiego.

European Mediterranean Women and the “Showdown” Between Public Emancipation and Private Self-oppression

2020

This chapter emphasizes the unfinished nature of a form of late-modernity still hanging in the balance between frameworks of representation and legitimization regarding women and the roles they play within the public sphere in virtue of the emancipation that has taken place and the contradictions which emerge when trying to reconcile old and new models of femininity. We shall, therefore, try to disengage some of the knots linking gender violence and “cultural representations” but, above all, the “adaptive preferences” and “corrosive disadvantages” found in European women’s private lives, which clash totally with their social achievements and are attributable to emotional oppression and, sim…

Kants Konzeption kosmologischer Freiheit – ein metaphysischer Rest?

2017

Plant Morphology: The Historic Concepts of Wilhelm Troll, Walter Zimmermann and Agnes Arber

2001

Recent molecular systematic and developmental genetic findings have drawn attention to plant morphology as a discipline dealing with the phenotypic appearance of plant forms. However, since different terms and conceptual frameworks have evolved over a period of more than 200 years, it is reasonable to survey the history of plant morphology; this is the first of two papers with this aim. The present paper deals with the historic concepts of Troll, Zimmermann and Arber, which are based on Goethe's morphology. Included are contrasting views of ‘unity and diversity’, ‘position and process’, and ‘morphology and phylogeny’, which, in part, are basic views of current plant morphology, phylogenetic…

Avicenna on Negative Judgement

2016

Avicenna’s logical theory of negative judgement can be seen as a systematic development of the insights Aristotle had laid out in the De interpretatione. However, in order to grasp the full extent of his theory one must extend the examination from the logical works to the metaphysical and psychological bases of negative judgement. Avicenna himself often refrains from the explicit treatment of the connections between logic and metaphysics or psychology, or treats them in a rather oblique fashion. Time and again he is satisfied with noting that this or that question is not proper for a logician and should be dealt with in metaphysics or psychology—without bothering to refer his reader to the …
