Estimation of equivalent dose to the eye lens and hands in wrist surgery using OSL dosimetry

The new recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP-2012 Publication 118) proposes reducing the limit of equivalent dose to the eye lens. For this reason, it is necessary to make estimates about received equivalent dose to the eye lens of medical staff. This study provides an alternative to dosimetry of the eye lens and hands, using dosimeters nanoDots based on optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) technology in wrist surgery procedure carried out with fluoroscopy.
Fatigue effects of marathon running on neuromuscular performance

Nine experienced endurance runners performed individual marathon runs that involved several tests of neuromuscular performance before, during and after the marathon. The tests were performed with special force platform and dynamometer techniques. The results showed an overall decrease in performance from the marathon. The maximal sprint velocity decreased parabolically during the marathon, reaching the final value of 84% of the pre-marathon one. Similarly, the other test results after marathon indicated that maximal isometric knee extension torque was 78%, the performance in a special rebound test (drop jump) 84% and the 5-jump performance 92% of the pre-marathon values. Comparison of elbow flexor isokinetic peak torque and fatigue index between men and women of different training level

The purpose of the study was to compare elbow flexion peak torque (PT) and fatigue index (FI) during isokinetic concentric contractions in men and women with different training levels. Sixty-eight young men and women were divided into four groups: resistance trained men (RTM), non-resistance trained men (NRTM), resistance trained women (RTW) and non- resistance trained women (NRTW). Participants performed two tests on an isokinetic dynamometer, one to evaluate PT and one to evaluate FI. Abstract During 41 procedures of intramedullary nailing of femoral and tibial fractures, the primary surgeon and the first assistant wore ring dosimeters on their dominant index fingers. While the average fluoroscopy time per procedure was 4.6 min, the average dose of radiation to the dominant hand of the primary surgeon was 1.27 mSv and 1.19 mSv to the first assistant. The dose limit for the extremities is 500 mSv per year, as recommended by the International Commission on Radiological Protection.
