Impact of the information provided to consumers on their willingness to pay for Champagne : comparison with hedonic scores

2002

Efficient Online Laplacian Eigenmap Computation for Dimensionality Reduction in Molecular Phylogeny via Optimisation on the Sphere

2019

Reconstructing the phylogeny of large groups of large divergent genomes remains a difficult problem to solve, whatever the methods considered. Methods based on distance matrices are blocked due to the calculation of these matrices that is impossible in practice, when Bayesian inference or maximum likelihood methods presuppose multiple alignment of the genomes, which is itself difficult to achieve if precision is required. In this paper, we propose to calculate new distances for randomly selected couples of species over iterations, and then to map the biological sequences in a space of small dimension based on the partial knowledge of this genome similarity matrix. This mapping is then used …

Selenomethionine labeling of large biological macromolecular complexes: probing the structure of marine bacterial virus PM2.

2008

There is a need for improved tools for labeling protein species within large macromolecular assemblies. Here we describe a method for the efficient selenomethionine labeling of the membrane-containing bacterial virus PM2 for structural studies. By examining potential host cells a strain was found which was auxotrophic for methionine, and by performing a multiparameter search of conditions it was possible to derive a robust protocol which simultaneously minimized the toxic effects of the selenomethionine, so that a reasonable virus yield was maintained, whilst still achieving essentially complete labeling. This has allowed us to fingerprint the protein constituents of the virus in a relative…

Effects of Food Label Health and Nutrition Claims on Consumer Perceptions

2009

Two experiments are reported that examined consumers' perceptions of food package labels where health and nutrition claims were present and where they had been removed. Unlike previous studies examining the influence of information on perception, realistic materials were used. This was accomplished by presenting information on a computer as photo-realistic images of packages where claims had been removed by editing to give a without-claims condition. Automatic presentation of materials and data collection meant participants proceeded through the computer questionnaire without the presence of an experimenter. The experiment was conducted with both British and French consumers. No significant…

MAGA: A Supervised Method to Detect Motifs From Annotated Groups in Alignments

2020

Multiple sequence alignments are usually phylogenetically driven. They are studied in the framework of evolution. But sometimes, it is interesting to study residue conservation at positions unconstrained by evolutionary rules. We present a supervised method to access a layer of information difficult to appreciate visually when many protein sequences are aligned. This new tool (MAGA; http://cbdm-01.zdv.uni-mainz.de/~munoz/maga/ ) locates positions in multiple sequence alignments differentially conserved in manually defined groups of sequences.

Comparison of conventional descriptive analysis and a citation frequency-based descriptive method for odor profiling: An application to Burgundy Pino…

2010

International audience; The limitations of intensity scoring when describing the odor characteristics of a complex product have been documented in the literature. In the present work, the odor properties of 12 Burgundy Pinot noir wines were described by two independent panels performing, respectively, an intensity-based (conventional descriptive analysis) and a citation frequency-based method. Methods were compared according to three criteria: similarity of the sensory maps, control of panel performance and practical aspects. Intensity scoring and citation frequency data were analyzed, respectively, by Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and Correspondence Analysis (CA) followed by Hierarch…

Perception of wine quality according to extrinsic cues: The case of Burgundy wine consumers

2013

International audience; The value consumers put on specific products depends on the information they can get from experience and from the commercial description of the products. For wine, this information derives mainly from tasting (intrinsic factors) and from the packaging of the bottles (extrinsic factors). The main purpose of this work is to compare different methodologies able to disclose the extrinsic factors playing an important role in wine quality perception of consumers. Twenty-four Chardonnay commercial wines were selected according to different criteria such as origin, denomination of origin and information provided in the label or back label. Forty-eight participants living in …

Role of biological control agents and physical treatments in maintaining the quality of fresh and minimally-processed fruit and vegetables

2019

International audience; Fruit and vegetables are an important part of human diets and provide multiple health benefits. However, due to the short shelf-life of fresh and minimally-processed fruit and vegetables, significant losses occur throughout the food distribution chain. Shelf-life extension requires preserving both the quality and safety of food products. The quality of fruit and vegetables, either fresh or fresh-cut, depends on many factors and can be determined by analytical or sensory evaluation methods. Among the various technologies used to maintain the quality and increase shelf-life of fresh and minimally-processed fruit and vegetables, biological control is a promising approac…

Evaluación participativa del territorio con enfoque de equidad: adaptación y validación de la Place Standard al contexto español

2022

OBJECTIVE Translation and cross-cultural adaptation to the Spanish context of the Place Standard tool to undertake participatory evaluations in place-based communities. METHOD A back-translation method was used to obtain an adapted version of the original Place Standard tool. The translated version was reviewed by a multidisciplinary committee of experts and validated using the Delphi method. RESULTS The final version of the adapted Place Standards tool (Entornos de Vida in Spanish) consists of 14 dimensions and 99 items. 21% of the items presented semantic difficulties during the translation. Total consensus through the Delphi panel was reached on 72% of the items. The analysis resulted in…
