Multi-Objective Design of Optimisation of a Class of PKMs - The 3-DOF Gantry-Tau
2010
The main contribution of this paper is the use of the evolutionary multi-objective methodology based on the com plex search algorithm and geometric approaches to optimise a parallel kinematic structure. The design optimisation scheme includes the kinematic (collisions free workspace), elastostatic (Cartesian stiffness in the Y direction) and elastodynamic (first resonance frequency) properties of the PKM as the objectives. The optimisation constraints are the support frame lengths, actuator positions, end-effector’s kinematic parameters and the robot’s arm lengths. The optimisation results are presented in this paper.
Video-Based Heartbeat Rate Measuring Method Using Ballistocardiography
2017
International audience; Video-based heartbeat rate measurement is a rapidly growing application in remote health monitoring. Video-based heartbeat rate measuring methods operate mainly by estimating photoplethysmography or ballistocardiography signals. These methods operate by estimating the microscopic color change in the face or by estimating the microscopic rigid motion of the head/facial skin. However, the robustness to motion artifacts caused by illumination variance and motion variance of the subject poses main challenge. We present a video-based heartbeat rate measuring framework to overcome these problems by using the principle of ballistocardiography. In this paper, we proposed a b…
A composite indicator for water meter replacement in an urban distribution network
2012
In water supply management, volumetric water meter are typically used to measure users' consumption. With water meters, utilities can collect useful data for billing, assess the water balance of the system, and identify failures in the network, water theft and anomalous user behaviour. Despite their importance, these instruments are characterised by intrinsic errors that cause so-called apparent losses. The complexity of the physical phenomena associated with metering errors in aging water meters does not allow meter replacement to be guided by single parameters, such as the meter age or the total volume passed through the meter. This paper presents a meter replacement strategy based on a c…
Mono and Stereoscopic Image Analysis for Detecting the Transverse Profile of Worn-Out Rails
2012
AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to suggest a new procedure for reconstructing the transverse profile of rails in operation by means of image-processing technique. This methodological approach is based on the “information” contained in high-resolution photographic images of tracks and on specific algorithms which allow to obtain the exact geometric profile of the rails and therefore to measure the state of the rail-head extrados wear. The analyses and the results concern rails taken from railway lines under upgrading by means of mono- and stereoscopic methods which are appropriate to be employed in laboratory applications or in high-efficiency surveys in situ.
Scars Collaborative Telediagnosis Platform Using Adaptive Image Flow
2013
International audience; Telemedicine has been developed to allow practitioners to remotely connect with patients and with other medical staff. We propose a new system (hardware and software), named DICODERM (COllaborative DIagnosis of DERMatosis), which makes it possible to monitor the evolution of scars after the excision of a tumorous dermatosis (like melanoma). The hardware part of this system is composed of a new optical innovative probe with which two types of images can be acquired simultaneously: anatomic with a white light image and functional with a fluorescence image (using autofluorescence from the protoporphyrin within the cancer cell). The software part is composed of two compon…
Fuzzy predictive controller design using ant colony optimization algorithm
2014
In this paper, an approach for designing an adaptive fuzzy model predictive control (AFMPC) based on the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) is studied. On-line adaptive fuzzy identification is used to identify the system parameters. These parameters are used to calculate the objective function based on predictive approach and structure of RST control. The optimization problem is solved based on an ACO algorithm, used at the optimization process in AFMPC to calculate a sequence of future RST control actions. The obtained simulation results show that proposed approach provides better results compared with Proportional Integral-Ant Colony Optimization (PI-ACO) controller and adaptive fuzzy model pr…
<title>Optical power and irradiance microprocessor meter for fiber optic sensors and networks testing</title>
1999
In this paper are presented the optical power and irradiance meter with `an intelligent opto sensor' and the microprocessor measurement system. A designed and programmed microprocessor unit allows to measure a light power from 1 nW to 2 mW and an irradiance of light from 50 nW/cm2 to 150 mW/cm2 (with accuracy 0.2%) including sensor's and spectral responsively characteristic. It's built for measuring fiber optic systems, mainly for examination and testing of the optoelectronic sensor's structure (relatively small surface of the light detectors comparing to the partition of measured value) and it's an ideal detector for the fiber optic sensors and networks.© (1999) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The Interna…
Foundations of offshore wind turbines: A review
2019
Abstract Offshore wind is a source of clean, renewable energy of great potential value to the power industry in the context of a low carbon society. Rapid development of offshore wind energy depends on a good understanding of technical issues related to offshore wind turbines, which is spurring ongoing research and development programmes. Foundations of offshore wind turbines present one of the main challenges in offshore wind turbine design. This paper reviews the present state of knowledge concerning geotechnical and structural issues affecting foundation types under consideration for the support structures of offshore wind turbines, and provides recommendations for future research and de…
Off-line path correction of robotic face milling using static tool force and robot stiffness
2015
In this paper the developed method for off-line compensation of tool deflections when milling aluminum with an industrial robot is presented. The efficiency of this approach is verified with high precision measurements of deflections using a laser tracker. The compensation method includes both the static milling process model which can predict the mean value components of the tool forces and a new combined local/global approach for estimating the combined stiffnesses of joints. With a process model such as the one presented in this paper and estimates of the robot's joint stiffness values, the tool path can be adjusted to counteract deflections of the tool during milling operations. The mod…
Design of a configurable multispectral imaging system based on an AOTF.
2011
In this paper, we present a configurable multispectral imaging system based on an acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF). Typically, AOTFs are used to filter a single wavelength at a time, but thanks to the use of a versatile sweeping frequency generator implemented with a direct digital synthesizer, the imager may capture a configurable spectral range. Experimental results show a good spectral and imaging response of the system for spectral bandwidth up to a 50 nm.
