This paper is an extension of our previous work on the image segmentation of electronic structures on patterned wafers to improve the defect detection process on optical inspection tools. Die-to-die wafer inspection is based upon the comparison of the same area on two neighborhood dies. The dissimilarities between the images are a result of defects in this area of one of the die. The noise level can vary from one structure to the other, within the same image. Therefore, segmentation is needed to create a mask and apply an optimal threshold in each region. Human arm motion can inspire the trajectory planning of anthropomorphic robotic arms to achieve energy-efficient movements. An approach for predicting metabolic cost in the planar human arm motion by means of the biomechanical simulation is proposed in this work. Two biomechanical models, including an analytical model and a musculoskeletal model, are developed to implement the proposed approach. The analytical model is developed by modifying a human muscle expenditure model, in which the muscles are grouped as torque providers for computation efficiency. A virtual testbed for analysis and design of sensorimotoric aspects of agent control

Abstract In this paper XRaptor is introduced, an object-oriented simulation tool. It provides a virtual multi-agent world which acts as testbed for agent control mechanisms. This environment encompasses a 3-dimensional space, in which the agents may move. Currently agents are realized modelling some abstract properties of flies and bats. XRaptor provides different levels of information flow and world manipulation capabilities from the agents' point of view. A further purpose of XRaptor is educational: Different teams of developers may design control units for agents which can then be subjected to a tournament.
Range image binarization: applications to wooden stamps analysis

This paper deals with the analysis of ancient wooden stamps. The aim is to extract a binary image from the stamp. This image must be the closer to the image produced by inking and using a printing press with the stamps. A range image based method is proposed to extract a stamped image from the stamps. The range image acquisition from a 3D laser scanner is presented. Pre-filtering for range image enhancement is detailed. The range image binarization method is based on an adaptive thresholding. Autonomous patrol and surveillance system using unmanned aerial vehicles

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are increasingly popular for civil applications due to their flight capabilities and mobility. This paper proposes an indoor autonomous patrol and surveillance system using unmanned aerial vehicles. The system consists of six components: (1) a low cost vision-based pose estimation of UAVs, (2) vision-based state estimation, (3) UAV patrol path planning, (4) UAV controller to desired waypoints, (5) manual joystick controller and (6) assignment of priority hierarchy to multiple control inputs of a robot. Abstract We developed a visual assistance system for image guided neurosurgery, consisting of a stereoscopic digital camera (exoscope) mounted on a semi-robotic manipulator. In order to minimize the operation time, the application-specific multimodal user interface enables hands-free manipulation of the exoscope.
