Synthesis and characterization of redox-sensitive polyurethanes based on L-glutathione oxidized and poly(ether ester) triblock copolymers

2021

Abstract Segmented polyurethanes, based on PCL-PEG-PCL copolymers, 1,4-diisocyanatobutane and l -glutathione oxidized, used as chain extender, were synthetized. Three different reactions conditions were investigated using three different copolymers having ɛ-CL/polyethylene glycol molar ratios equal to 12, 24 and 36 and three different reaction conditions. As investigated by size exclusion chromatography analyses and quantification of l -glutathione, the polymerization and the extension phase's efficiency depended on the ɛ-CL/PEG ratio and the extension phase's operating temperature. Three selected polyurethanes were characterized by spectroscopic, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and…

Drug-induced and iatrogenic infiltrative lung disease.

2004

At present more than 350 drugs are known to cause injury of the lung parenchyma, upper and lower airways, pulmonary circulation, pleura, mediastinum, lymph nodes, and neuromuscular system. Infiltrative lung disease (ILD) is the most common pattern of drug-induced injury. This article, which is clinically oriented rather than drug oriented, reviews the patterns of ILD produced by therapeutic drugs and radiation therapy.

Interstitial lung disease induced by drugs and radiation.

2004

An ever-increasing number of drugs can reproduce variegated patterns of naturally occurring interstitial lung disease (ILD), including most forms of interstitial pneumonias, alveolar involvement and, rarely, vasculitis. Drugs in one therapeutic class may collectively produce the same pattern of involvement. A few drugs can produce more than one pattern of ILD. The diagnosis of drug-induced ILD (DI-ILD) essentially rests on the temporal association between exposure to the drug and the development of pulmonary infiltrates. The histopathological features of DI-ILD are generally consistent, rather than suggestive or specific to the drug etiology. Thus, the diagnosis of DI-ILD is mainly made by …

Efficacy and safety of rituximab with and without methotrexate in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis patients: Results from the GISEA register

2014

Abstract Introduction Rituximab (RTX) is a monoclonal anti-CD20 antibody approved for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in association with methotrexate (MTX). Objectives To evaluate the efficacy and safety of RTX–MTX combination therapy compared with RTX alone in the treatment of RA. Methods We analyzed data from a prospective cohort study, the Italian biologic register GISEA, to investigate the efficacy and safety of rituximab. Moreover, the adverse events (AE) and the causes of discontinuation therapy were analyzed. Results We identified 338 RA patients, 162 treated with RTX and 176 with RTX–MTX. After 52 and 104 weeks of therapy the disease activity score in 28 joints and the H…

S2k guideline for treatment of cutaneous lupus erythematosus - guided by the European Dermatology Forum (EDF) in cooperation with the European Academ…

2016

Cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) is a rare inflammatory autoimmune disease with heterogeneous clinical manifestations. To date, no therapeutic agents have been licensed specifically for patients with this disease entity, and topical and systemic drugs are mostly used 'off-label'. The aim of the present guideline was to achieve a broad consensus on treatment strategies for patients with CLE by a European subcommittee, guided by the European Dermatology Forum (EDF) and supported by the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV). In total, 16 European participants were included in this project and agreed on all recommendations. Topical corticosteroids remain the mainstay of trea…

Role of serum interleukin-6 in deciding therapy for multidrug resistant oral lichen planus

2015

Background: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a T cell mediated immune response. T cells locally present in the involved tissues release cytokines like interleukin-6 (IL-6), which contributes to pathogenesis of OLP. Also IL-6 has been associated with multidrug resistance protein (MRP) expression by keratinocytes. Correspondingly, upregulation of MRP was found in OLP. We conducted this study to evaluate the effects of various drugs on serum IL-6 in OLP; and correlation of these effects with the nature of clinical response and resistance pattern seen in OLP lesions with various therapeutic modalities. Thus we evaluated the role of serum IL-6 in deciding therapy for multidrug resistant OLP. Material…

Target Analogue Imprinted Polymers with Affinity for Folic Acid and Related Compounds

2001

Two approaches to synthesize molecularly imprinted polymers with affinity for folic acid and other substituted pteridines have been compared. In the first approach, the folic acid analogue methotrexate was used as template and functional monomers capable of generating selective binding sites were searched in a miniaturized screening system based on binding assessment in the batch mode. Highest selectivity was seen using 2-vinylpyridine as functional monomer, which was confirmed in the chromatographic mode for a batch synthesized on a gram scale. However, the retentivity and selectivity of this phase were insufficient for anticipated applications. In a second approach, using methacrylic acid…
