Abundance of narG , nirS , nirK , and nosZ Genes of Denitrifying Bacteria during Primary Successions of a Glacier Foreland

ABSTRACT Quantitative PCR of denitrification genes encoding the nitrate, nitrite, and nitrous oxide reductases was used to study denitrifiers across a glacier foreland. Environmental samples collected at different distances from a receding glacier contained amounts of 16S rRNA target molecules ranging from 4.9 × 10 5 to 8.9 × 10 5 copies per nanogram of DNA but smaller amounts of narG , nirK , and nosZ target molecules. International audience; In this study, we investigated whether the Agr communication system of the pathogenic bacterium Listeria monocytogenes was involved in adaptation and competitiveness in soil. International audience; Whether bacteria display spatial patterns of distribution and at which level of taxonomic organization such patterns can be observed are central questions in microbial ecology. Here we investigated how the total and relative abundances of eight bacterial taxa at the phylum or class level were spatially distributed in a pasture by using quantitative PCR and geostatistical modelling. The distributions of the relative abundance of most taxa varied by a factor of 2.5–6.5 and displayed strong spatial patterns at the field scale. We describe the gut bacterial diversity inhabiting two saprophagous syrphids and their breeding substrate (decayed tissues of the columnar cactus Isolatocereus dumortieri). We analyzed the gut microbiota of Copestylum latum (scooping larvae that feed on decayed cactus tissues) and Copestylum limbipenne (whose larvae can also feed on semiliquid tissues) using molecular techniques. DNA was extracted from larval guts and cactus tissues. The V1-V3 region of the 16S rRNA genes was amplified and sequenced. A total of 31079 sequences were obtained. Der Einflu� von Antibiotica auf die �berlebensrate von Mikroorganismen bei tiefen Temperaturen

Die Lebendkeimzahl in einer Suspension vonE. coli nimmt bei +4°C langsam zu, nimmt bei-5°C wenig ab und fallt bei-19°C innerhalb von 24 Std stark, wahrend die Verringerung in den folgenden Tagen nur noch gering ist. Streptomycin und Penicillin vermindern in allen 3 Temperaturbereichen die Keimkonzentration in Abhangigkeit von der Antibioticumkonzentration. Subbakteriostatische Konzentrationen von Streptomycin haben bei-19°C eine zusatzliche Wirkung. Die Resistenz der in uberbakteriostatischen Antibioticakonzentrationen bei diesen Temperaturen uberlebenden Keime ist gegenuber dem Ausgangsstamm weder erhoht noch vermindert.
