Repression of Human Papillomavirus Oncogene Expression under Hypoxia Is Mediated by PI3K/mTORC2/AKT Signaling

Oncogenic HPV types are major human carcinogens. Under hypoxia, HPV-positive cancer cells can repress the viral E6/E7 oncogenes and induce a reversible growth arrest. This response could contribute to therapy resistance, immune evasion, and tumor recurrence upon reoxygenation. Here, we uncover evidence that HPV oncogene repression is mediated by hypoxia-induced activation of canonical PI3K/mTORC2/AKT signaling. AKT-dependent downregulation of E6/E7 is only observed under hypoxia and occurs, at least in part, at the transcriptional level. Contribution of exofacial thiol groups in the reducing activity of Lactococcus lactis

Lactococcus lactis can decrease the redox potential at pH 7 (E(h7)) from 200 to -200 mV in oxygen free Man-Rogosa-Sharpe media. Neither the consumption of oxidizing compounds or the release of reducing compounds during lactic acid fermentation were involved in the decrease in E(h7) by the bacteria. Thiol groups located on the bacterial cell surface appear to be the main components that are able to establish a greater exchange current between the Pt electrode and the bacteria. After the final E(h7) (-200 mV) was reached, only thiol-reactive reagents could restore the initial E(h7) value. General esterases, like wall heterologous enzymes, may be implicated in allergenic mechanisms. We cytochemically examined the presence of these enzymes, bearing in mind thatPinus spp. is often considered a possible cause of allergies. Positive esterase results in fungus spores were found on the strip of a volumetric sampler. Data are reported here, together with the hypothesis of a possible esterase-allergenic link regarding fungus spores.
Influence of some physicochemical factors on the viscosity of aqueous levan solutions ofZymomonas mobilis

Zymomonas mobilis strain 113 “S” produces levan – an extracellular, viscous, biologically active, non-toxic fructose polymer with a unique structure and extraordinary properties. This polysaccharide was isolated at two different degrees of purity by alcohol precipitation from aqueous solutions and was characterized with respect to some rheological properties and stability of viscous solutions. The effects of temperature, pH and salt concentration on the viscosity of 1–3% levan solutions were examined.
