Particle models for kinetic equations: an introduction and some rigorous results
2011
We shall give an introduction to the validity problem for kinetic equations and we shall review some convergence theorems concerning the derivation from a microscopic dynamics of systems of partial differential equations describing, at the mesoscopic scale, collections of particles interacting through various (collisions and mean field) type of interaction.
Evaluation of efficacy and biocompatibility of a new absorbable synthetic substitute as a dural onlay graft in a large animal model.
2016
Numerous dura substitutes are commercially available, but no absorbable synthetic dura repair product has been used for both onlay and suture applications. The safety and effectiveness of a new absorbable synthetic substitute composed of Poly-L-lactide microfibers as onlay dural graft were evaluated.Physical properties and performance of the microfibrous synthetic dural substitute implanted as an onlay or suturable grafts were compared with these commercial products, including CODMAN ETHISORB™ Dura Patch and DuraGen™ Dural Graft Matrix, in a canine duraplasty model. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage, macroscopic and microscopic observation at 30 and 90 days after implantation were invest…
Nuclear structure and neutrino-nucleus reactions at supernova energies
2015
Supernova-(anti-)neutrino–nucleus scattering is discussed with reference to neutral-current (NC) and charged-current (CC) processes in heavy stable nuclei. The Donnelly-Walecka method with the associated multipole expansion of the nucleonic current has been adopted as the basic framework in deriving the neutrino-nucleus scattering cross sections. The needed nuclear wave functions are computed by using the quasiparticle random-phase approximation (QRPA) for the even-even target nuclei in the NC processes and the proton-neutron QRPA (pnQRPA) has been used to compute the CC processes for the mentioned nuclei. The wave functions of the stable odd-mass target nuclei have been obtained by the use…
L'ESAME CAPILLAROSCOPICO ORALE: NUOVA METODICA DIAGNOSTICA
2005
The morphological-functional study of microcirculation is of fundamental importance; in fact, the microvascular bed is directly involved both in autoimmune etiopathogenesis pathologies, and in acute and chronic inflammatory etiopathogenesis pathologies. Oral capillaroscopy is a very stimulating method for studying microcirculation, because of the possibility of studying small vessels in vivo by means of a microscope. Today, it is becoming more reliable thanks to the improvement of the observation tools (photography, videomicroscopy).
Explicit proton transfer in classical molecular dynamics simulations.
2014
We present Hydrogen Dynamics (HYDYN), a method that allows explicit proton transfer in classical force field molecular dynamics simulations at thermodynamic equilibrium. HYDYN reproduces the characteristic properties of the excess proton in water, from the special pair dance, to the continuous fluctuation between the limiting Eigen and Zundel complexes, and the water reorientation beyond the first solvation layer. Advantages of HYDYN with respect to existing methods are computational efficiency, microscopic reversibility, and easy parameterization for any force field peerReviewed
Comparison of Microscopic Interacting Boson Model and Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation 0νββ Decay Nuclear Matrix Elements
2021
The fundamental nature of the neutrino is presently a subject of great interest. A way to access the absolute mass scale and the fundamental nature of the neutrino is to utilize the atomic nuclei through their rare decays, the neutrinoless double beta (0νββ) decay in particular. The experimentally measurable observable is the half-life of the decay, which can be factorized to consist of phase space factor, axial vector coupling constant, nuclear matrix element, and function containing physics beyond the standard model. Thus reliable description of nuclear matrix element is of crucial importance in order to extract information governed by the function containing physics beyond the standard m…
Occupation probabilities of single particle levels using the microscopic interacting boson model: Application to some nuclei of interest in neutrinol…
2016
We have developed a new method to calculate the occupancies of single particle levels in atomic nuclei. This method has been developed in the context of the microscopic interacting boson model, in which neutron and proton degrees of freedom are treated explicitly. The energies of the single particle levels constitute a very important input for the calculation of the occupancies in this method. In principle these energies can be considered as input parameters that can be fitted to reproduce the experimental occupancies. Instead of fitting, in this study we have extracted the single particle energies from experimental data on nuclei with a particle more or one particle less than a shell closu…
