Manifold instances of proximity violence and proximity vulnerability of the migrant women

Over the past few decades and up until 2017, Sicily has hosted increasing numbers of African fugitives into the European Union. Within this markedly multicultural context, the authors carried out a two-part qualitative research project, the first part consisting in participative observation of a number of sub-Saharan women hosted by some of the island’s refugee reception centres, victims of abuse, followed by a set of semi-structured interviews administered to them. The chapter analizes the phenomenon of proximity violence as umbrella concept of the most underhanded form of violence against women. It then explores the contribution of the female professionals working in the shelters and the specific tools used by them in order to support migrant women victims of proximity violence.

L'articolo riflette sul processo di istituzionalizzazione della Consulta delle Culture del Comune di Palermo, istituita nel 2013, ed analizza la campagna elettorare del 2018 a partire dalle interviste ad alcuni candidati e testimoni privilegiati. The article concerns the institutionalization process of the Council of Cultures of the Municipality of Palermo, established in 2013. Furthermore, it analyzes the 2018 electoral campaign starting from interviews with some candidates and privilege witnesses.

Today, migrants are a resource for the trade union, which is declining in membership and popularity, as it is for this category. The central function is still linked to services and information support. But the presence of new users to be protected and represented required a profound organisational and cultural transformation within the union, which has not yet been fully achieved throughout the country. The chapter analyses the data and reasons for migrants joining trade unions.
