Yksilön asenteet eivät ole satunnaiset. Sen sijaan ihmiset omaksuvat tiettyjä asennekokonaisuuksia, eli poliittisia ideologioita, joita eri sosiaaliset ryhmät ylläpitävät. Economists and Eugenics: Progressive Era Racism and its (Jewish) Discontents

This chapter analyzes the contribution to the debates on labor and immigration of a group of Jewish academicians and reformers who, during the second half of the Progressive Era, explicitly took a stance against the racialist and eugenic rhetoric of the period. This group includes first-rank economists like Edwin R. A. Seligman, Jacob H. Hollander, and Emanuel A. Goldenweiser; influential field specialists such as Isaac A. Hourwich and Isaac M. Rubinow; and relatively less known figures like Max J. Kohler and Samuel K. Joseph. By focusing on the voices of these dissenters, this chapter enriches the emerging picture of Progressive Era eugenic and racial thought.
Public policy in families and successions regulations : the case of ?talaq?

According to EU Regulations on transnational families and successions, a foreign rule remains without effect if it is deemed contrary to the so-called public policy (ordre public) of the forum?s legal system. As a consequence, judges have to evaluate whether the application of foreign law is incompatible with fundamental principles of the domestic law, especially whether it would constitute a violation against human rights. An outstanding controversial issue is today represented by Islamic repudiation (talaq): two contrasting Italian judicial decisions of August 2020 may illustrate how difficult it could be to determine what public policy is.

Quantifying within- and between-individual variation in animal migration strategies is a first step towards our understanding of the ability of migrants to adjust to changes in the en - vironment. We studied consistency (or, conversely, flexibility) in movement patterns at large (>1000 km) to meso-scales (100−1000 km) during the non-breeding season of the long-tailed skua Stercorarius longicaudus, a long-distance migratory Arctic seabird, using light-based geolocation. A complex set of biotic and abiotic factors affects a drift. Mayfly drift has been extensively studied worldwide, but the manner in which the environmental factors interact is not completely clear. The aim of the present study was to characterise mayfly seasonal and diel drift patterns in relation to abiotic factors in a medium-sized lowland stream in Latvia. Drift samples were collected at three-hour intervals in a riffle section in May, August and September 2007. Distinct seasonal and diel patterns of the mayfly drift were observed in the Korge stream.
