Partial Stabilization of Input-Output Contact Systems on a Legendre Submanifold

This technical note addresses the structure preserving stabilization by output feedback of conservative input-output contact systems, a class of input-output Hamiltonian systems defined on contact manifolds. In the first instance, achievable contact forms in closed-loop and the associated Legendre submanifolds are analysed. In the second instance the stability properties of a hyperbolic equilibrium point of a strict contact vector field are analysed and it is shown that the stable and unstable manifolds are Legendre submanifolds. Adaptive-gain extended Kalman filter: Extension to the continuous-discrete case

In the present article we propose a nonlinear observer that merges the behaviors 1) of an extended Kalman filter, mainly designed to smooth off noise , and 2) of high-gain observers devoted to handle large perturbations in the state estimation. We specifically aim at continuous-discrete systems. The strategy consists in letting the high-gain self adapt according to the innovation. We define innovation computed over a time window and justify its usage via an important lemma. We prove the general convergence of the resulting observer.

Intelligent virtual manufacturing cell formation in cloud-based design and manufacturing

Abstract Cloud-based design and manufacturing (CBDM) can presumably stimulate greater intelligence in cloud-based models. This paper assumes that cloud-based design for cellular manufacturing can be referred to as a multiscale, uncertain, and dynamic service-oriented network where a set of CAD parts, modelled by set of features, can be manufactured in intelligent virtual manufacturing cells under certain constraints. Abstract Time to contact or time to collision (TTC) is utmost important information for animals as well as for mobile robots because it enables them to avoid obstacles; it is a convenient way to analyze the surrounding environment. This research paper presents guidelines on how to select between self-contained electro-hydraulic and electromechanical cylinders. An example based on the motion control of a single-boom crane is studied. The sizing process of the different off-the-shelf components is analyzed in terms of design impact when replacing a traditional valve-controlled hydraulic cylinder. The self-contained electro-hydraulic solution is the best choice when a risk for high impact forces is present, when the required output power level lies continuously above 2 kW, or when installation space, weight, and cost are critical design objectives. Optimizing MRI contrast with B1 pulses using optimal control theory

The variety of achievable contrasts by MRI makes it a highly flexible and valuable diagnostic tool. Contrast results from relaxation time differences, which are intrinsic properties of each tissue. Using optimal control theory, one can control the obtained contrast by applying excitation pulses that bring the magnetization in a user-defined target state. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the feasibility and the flexibility of using optimal contrast pulses. The robustness to experimental variable parameters such as field inhomogeneities is also studied.
