Luminescence and electron transport properties of GaN and AlN layers
2001
Abstract The transport properties of free charge carriers, photo- and cathodo-luminescence (CV) in GaN and AlN films obtained by MOCVD technique on sapphire and Si substrates, are investigated. The concentration of free charge carriers in GaN is of order 10 17 – 10 19 cm −3 whereas AlN thin films are insulating. The Hall mobility of electrons are 80– 140 cm 2 / V s ). In undoped GaN films the spectral composition of CL is close to photoluminescence (PL) when excited in the region of band–band transitions. The decay time constant of the 3.44 eV UV emission attributed to the bound exciton is considerably less than 1 ns , whereas the 3.26 eV violet (VI) band shows a slow hyperbolical decay ove…

Investigation of Oxygen-Related Luminescence Centres in AlN Ceramics
2000
The structure of oxygen-related luminescence centres in nominally undoped and Y 2 O 3 doped AlN ceramics was investigated by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), electron nuclear double resonance (ENDOR) and optically-detected EPR. The photoluminescence-detected EPR lines having g-values of 1.990 and 2.008 were assigned to a recombination between neighbouring donor and acceptor pairs. The two EPR lines at g = 1.987 and 2.003 detected via the recombination luminescence in the afterglow are thought to be due to a recombination between the same, but distant donor and acceptor pairs. The donor was previously speculated to be an electron trapped on an oxygen impurity which substitutes for a ni…
Carbene-metal complexes as molecular scaffolds for construction of through-space TADF emitters
2021
Through-space charge transfer (CT) process is observed in Cu(I) carbene-metal-amide complexes, where conventional imidazole or imidazoline N-heterocyclic (NHC) carbene fragments act as inert linkers and CT proceeds between a metal-bound carbazole donor and a distantly situated carbene-bound phenylsulfonyl acceptor. The resulting electron transfer gives a rise to efficient thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF), characterized with high photoluminescence quantum yields (ΦPL up to 90 %) and radiative rates (kr) up to 3.32×105 s-1. TADF process is aided by fast reverse intersystem crossing (rISC) rates of up to 2.56×107 s-1. Such emitters can be considered as hybrids of two existing TA…

A new neuraminic acid derivative and three types of glycopeptides isolated from the Cuvierian tubules of the sea cucumber Holothuria forskali
1973
The Cuvierian tubules of Holothuria forskali Della Chiaje, a sea cucumber found in the Adriatic Sea, were investigated with regard to their carbohydrate moieties. From a Pronase digest of these tubules three types of carbohydrate units were isolated and characterized. 1. A high-molecular-weight glycopeptide fraction was shown to contain sulphated polyfucose, galactosamine, a uronic acid and a previously unknown neuraminic acid derivative. The sulphate was shown by i.r. analysis to be present as an O-ester. The carbohydrate unit was linked O-glycosidically to threonine and serine residues in the polypeptide chain. The hitherto unknown neuraminic acid derivative (Hf-neuraminic acid) was resis…

Sensitization of nanocrystalline TiO2 with 3,4,9,10-perylene tetracarboxylic acid
2014
Optical properties of 3,4,9,10-perylene tetracarboxylic acid (PTCA) in the presence of nanocrystalline TiO2 (nominal diameter 15 nm) have been investigated in ethanol solution and in the solid state by UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence. Experimental results show that, in ethanol, the presence of TiO2 nanoparticles causes significant changes in the typical absorption and fluorescence bands of PTCA and in the fluorescence relaxation time. Similar effects are also detected in solid samples, obtained by electrospray deposition technique. The nonlinear optical properties of the PTCA-TiO2 in ethanol solutions were investigated using the single-beam Z-s…
Optical and electron paramagnetic resonance studies on radiation defects in Mn‐activated RbCdF 3
2007
The photoluminescence of Mn-activated RbCdF3 shows a Mn2+ emission band at 560 nm; the corresponding excitation bands are between 240 and 520 nm. After X-irradiation an increased Mn2+ emission can be observed and the excitation spectrum shows an additional broad intense band at 300 nm. Upon excitation at 300 nm the intensity of the Mn2+ emission decreases, whereas excitation at 240 nm leads to an increase in the PL intensity. Electron paramagnetic resonance shows that the number of Mn2+ ions is reduced upon X-irradiation; the original Mn2+ level can be restored upon optical bleaching. (© 2007 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
