New record and redescription of the monotypic genus Comefulvius Carvalho & Carpintero, 1985 (Hemiptera: He…
2014
Comefulvius chingonus Carvalho & Carpintero, the only representative of the genus Comefulvius, previously known only from Cordoba Province, Argentina, is recorded from Ecuador. Redescription of Comefulvius is given along with color photographs of the adult and illustrations of the male genitalia.
Review of the genus Valdasus Stål, 1860 (Heteroptera, Miridae, Cylapinae), with descriptions of four new species from Brazil, Ecuador and French Guia…
2020
The genus Valdasus Stål, 1860 is reviewed. Four species are described as new: Valdasus favrei n. sp., V. ferrerai n. sp., V. flavinotum n. sp., and V. henryi n. sp. V. erebeus Distant, 1883 and V. stygius Distant, 1883 are transferred again to Valdasus (original combination reestablished) from Peltidocylapus Poppius and they are redescribed along with the type species V. schoenherri Stål, 1860. Presence of V. bolivianus in Argentina is challenged after new analysis of female specimen mentioned in literature.
d-Alanyl-d-Alanine Carboxypeptidase in the Bacterial Form and L-Form of Proteus mirabilis
1975
Membranes of the bacterial form and the stable and unstable L-forms of Proteus mirabilis contain LD and DD-carboxypeptidase. The DD-carboxypeptidase is inhibited non-competitively by penicillin G. The enzyme of the bacterial form is highly penicillin-sensitive (Ki - 4 X 10(-9) M penicillin G). Inhibition is only partly reversible by treatment with penicillinase or by dialysis against buffer. In contrast, the DD-carboxypeptidase of the unstable L-form, grown in the presence of penicillin, is 175-fold less penicillin-sensitive (Ki = 7 X 10(7) M penicillin G). Inhibition is completely reversed by penicillinase or dialysis. After inhibition by penicillin and subsequent reactivation the penicill…

A loop involving NRF2, miR‐29b‐1‐5p and AKT, regulates cell fate of MDA‐MB‐231 triple‐negative breast cancer cells
2019
The present study shows that nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) and miR-29b-1-5p are two opposite forces which could regulate the fate of MDA-MB-231 cells, the most studied triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cell line. We show that NRF2 activation stimulates cell growth and markedly reduces reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, whereas miR-29b-1-5p overexpression increases ROS generation and reduces cell proliferation. Moreover, NRF2 downregulates miR-29b-1-5p expression, whereas miR-29b-1-5p overexpression decreases p-AKT and p-NRF2. Furthermore, miR-29b-1-5p overexpression induces both inhibition of DNA N-methyltransferases (DNMT1, DNMT3A, and DNMT3B) expression and …
Two new Salmonella genomic islands 1 from Proteus mirabilis and description of blaCTX-M-15 on a variant (SGI1-K7)
2018
Objectives To characterize the structure of Salmonella genomic islands 1 (SGI1s) from two clinical Proteus mirabilis isolates: one producing an ESBL and the other a penicillinase. Methods WGS completed by PCR and Sanger sequencing was performed to determine sequences of SGI1s from Pm2CHAMA and Pm37THOMI strains. Results Two new variants of SGI1 named SGI1-Pm2CHAMA (53.6 kb) and SGI1-K7 (55.1 kb) were identified. The backbone of SGI1-Pm2CHAMA shared 99.9% identity with that of SGI1. Its MDR region (26.3 kb) harboured two class 1 integrons (an In2-type integron and an In4-type integron) containing in particular a qacH cassette (encoding a quaternary ammonium compound efflux pump). These two i…

Coordinated Interpersonal Behaviour in Collective Dance Improvisation: The Aesthetics of Kinaesthetic Togetherness
2018
International audience; Collective dance improvisation (e.g., traditional and social dancing, contact improvisation) is a participatory, relational and embodied art form which eschews standard concepts in aesthetics. We present our ongoing research into the mechanisms underlying the lived experience of "togetherness" associated with such practices. Togetherness in collective dance improvisation is kinaesthetic (based on movement and its perception), and so can be simultaneously addressed from the perspective of the performers and the spectators, and be measured. We utilise these multiple levels of description: the first-person, phenomenological level of personal experiences, the third-perso…
Bodily Flashes of Dancing Women: Dance as a Method of Inquiry
2003
In May 1997 I was in Nicaragua researching a dance ritual known as May Pole. The act of dancing itself became a method of inquiry in my research process. This article concentrates on the interaction of two dancing women, Evelyn and me. My dance experience has acquired different interpretations in relation to time and context as I have reflected on it. I also enrich this experience with other dance experiences to explore my dancing body in its different forms. This hermeneutical starting point creates the conditions for trusting my instrument, my body, as a source of bodily knowledge.
