Manufacturing tolerances effects on PV array energy production

2014

This paper investigates the tolerance effects of commercial photovoltaic modules in terms of electrical energy reduction of photovoltaic plants. Several commercial modules, having the same rated power, present different power tolerance values. A wide tolerance is an indicator of possible defects or differences in the production process and is responsible of remarkable reductions in the electricity production of photovoltaic plants. In this paper, thanks to the development of a suitable simulation tool, several simulations have been carried out, considering different tolerance and shading conditions for the PV array. Simulation results quantify the peak power value of the different plant con…

Optimization of photovoltaic energy production through an efficient switching matrix

2013

This work presents a preliminary study on the implementation of a new system for power output maximization of photovoltaic generators under non-homogeneous conditions. The study evaluates the performance of an efficient switching matrix and the relevant automatic reconfiguration control algorithms. The switching matrix is installed between the PV generator and the inverter, allowing a large number of possible module configurations. PV generator, switching matrix and the intelligent controller have been simulated in Simulink. The proposed reconfiguration system improved the energy extracted by the PV generator under non-uniform solar irradiation conditions. Short calculation times of the pro…

Photovoltaic plant array reconfiguration: Design of a new device

2014

An efficient strategy to improve unequally irradiated PV plants performances is based on the reconfiguration of the connections between the modules. In this paper, an algorithm, for this purpose conceived, is presented. Moreover, the design, realization and finally also the set up of a new reconfiguration system device is fully shown and discussed. The algorithm conceived simulates several possible series-parallel connections under varying irradiation conditions, and determines the optimal modules connection in order to get the maximum output power. In this way, the reconfiguration system may set up the reconfiguration strategy. The reconfiguration system prototype set up, basically consist…

Technical and economical evaluation on the use of reconfiguration systems in some EU countries for PV plants

2017

This paper shows the technical and economical evaluation of the application of a reconfiguration system for photovoltaic (PV) plants, considering the incentives system in some European Union countries. The reconfiguration system is an alternative to the distributed maximum power point tracking technique which used to increase the power production in the PV plants under the mismatch phenomenon. The reconfiguration techniques employ a microprocessor-based or field-programmable gate array-based system that modifies the layout of the PV plant through the change of the connections among modules. After having presented the main features working of the PV reconfiguration system allowing the improv…

A mathematical model to determine the electrical energy production in photovoltaic fields under mismatch effect

2009

Among the electrical energy production systems from renewable sources, the photovoltaic one represents today one of the most efficient and technically tested choice. In this paper the authors present a mathematical model that allows the maximization of the generated power of photovoltaic (PV) plants under unequally radiation conditions. In particular, thanks to the model of a PV plant, unequally radiated, developed in Matlab-Simulink environment, in this paper the mismatch problem of PV plants is dealt with. The simulations curried out allow to assert that by putting into action re-configuration techniques of series-parallel connections of PV plants, under unequally radiation, can allow to …

The Role of Industry in the Prevalence of Overeducation in Europe

2015

Abstract This paper performs a detailed study on the interaction between industry and the risk of overeducation using European Social Survey Round 5 data on 27 countries. Administrative and accommodation industries have the largest overeducation levels. When macro-level variables are included in the overeducation model, finance and public administration join these industries in being significantly more open to overeducation than manufacturing. Construction is the only industry with significantly lower overeducation risk than manufacturing. The exposure to overeducation in different industries reflects clear consequences of traditional association of men and women with different industries. …

Isometric Words Based on Swap and Mismatch Distance

2023

An edit distance is a metric between words that quantifies how two words differ by counting the number of edit operations needed to transform one word into the other one. A word f is said isometric with respect to an edit distance if, for any pair of f-free words u and v, there exists a transformation of minimal length from u to v via the related edit operations such that all the intermediate words are also f-free. The adjective 'isometric' comes from the fact that, if the Hamming distance is considered (i.e., only mismatches), then isometric words are connected with definitions of isometric subgraphs of hypercubes. We consider the case of edit distance with swap and mismatch. We compare it…

From Nerode's congruence to Suffix Automata with mismatches

2009

AbstractIn this paper we focus on the minimal deterministic finite automaton Sk that recognizes the set of suffixes of a word w up to k errors. As first result we give a characterization of the Nerode’s right-invariant congruence that is associated with Sk. This result generalizes the classical characterization described in [A. Blumer, J. Blumer, D. Haussler, A. Ehrenfeucht, M. Chen, J. Seiferas, The smallest automaton recognizing the subwords of a text, Theoretical Computer Science, 40, 1985, 31–55]. As second result we present an algorithm that makes use of Sk to accept in an efficient way the language of all suffixes of w up to k errors in every window of size r of a text, where r is the…

Brain Research Reveals Automatic Musical Memory Functions in Children

2009

Even though music has special meanings and values compared to other sounds, it is nonetheless processed in the brain via partly the same neural networks that are built to process all kinds of sounds. The development of these brain areas depends on the input: on the sounds that a child is exposed to and chooses to attend to. We present two brain research paradigms that can be used to assess the specialization of the brain for musical sounds, and show promising results with these paradigms in a group of young children who have music as their hobby.

Abstract 571: The shared mutation and neoantigen landscape of MMR-deficient colorectal cancers suggests immunoediting during tumor evolution

2019

Abstract The immune system can recognize and attack cancer cells and their precursors, especially those with a high load of mutation-induced neoantigens. Such neoantigens are particularly abundant in DNA mismatch repair (MMR)-deficient cancers. MMR deficiency results in microsatellite instability (MSI), which leads to multiple insertion/deletion mutations at coding microsatellites and to neoantigen-inducing translational frameshifts. The significance of immune selection and immunoediting potentially shaping the neoantigen landscape during the progression from premalignant MMR-deficient lesions into cancers has not yet been analyzed. We hypothesized that the neoantigen landscape of MSI cance…
