Abstract Non-covalent functionalization of graphene with phospholipids is a promising technique for biosensing applications and intracellular delivery of analytical probes and drugs. However, molecular details of the self-assembly of lipids on graphene surface is still poorly understood and hard to control. There is a clear lack of understanding of why various kinds of lipid aggregates can form on graphene. On the suffix automaton with mismatches

International audience; In this paper we focus on the construction of the minimal deterministic finite automaton S_k that recognizes the set of suffixes of a word w up to k errors. We present an algorithm that makes use of S_k in order to accept in an efficient way the language of all suffixes of w up to k errors in every window of size r, where r is the value of the repetition index of w. Moreover, we give some experimental results on some well-known words, like prefixes of Fibonacci and Thue-Morse words, and we make a conjecture on the size of the suffix automaton with mismatches.

Methylating carcinogens and cytostatic drugs induce different methylation products in DNA. In cells not expressing the repair protein MGMT or expressing it at a low level, O6-methylguanine is the major genotoxic, recombinogenic, and apoptotic lesion. Genotoxicity and apoptosis triggered by O6-methylguanine require mismatch repair (MMR). In cells expressing O6-methylguanine-DNA methyl transferase (MGMT) at a high level or for agents producing low amounts of O6-methylguanine, N-alkylations become the major genotoxic lesions. Non-negative matrix factorization Vs. FastICA on mismatch negativity of children

In this presentation two event-related potentials, mismatch negativity (MMN) and P3a, are extracted from EEG by non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) simultaneously. Typically MMN recordings show a mixture of MMN, P3a, and responses to repeated standard stimuli. NMF may release the source independence assumption and data length limitations required by Fast independent component analysis (FastICA). Thus, in theory NMF could reach better separation of the responses. In the current experiment MMN was elicited by auditory duration deviations in 102 children. Sequence-specific and DNA structure-dependent interactions of Escherichia coli MutS and human p53 with DNA

Many proteins involved in DNA repair systems interact with DNA that has structure altered from the typical B-form helix. Using magnetic beads to immobilize DNAs containing various types of structures, we evaluated the in vitro binding activities of two well-characterized DNA repair proteins, Escherichia coli MutS and human p53. E. coli MutS bound to double-stranded DNAs, with higher affinity for a G/T mismatch compared to a G/A mismatch and highest affinity for larger non-B-DNA structures. E. coli MutS bound best to DNA between pH 6 and 9. Orientation and Dynamics of Peptides in Membranes Calculated from 2H-NMR Data

Solid-state (2)H-NMR is routinely used to determine the alignment of membrane-bound peptides. Here we demonstrate that it can also provide a quantitative measure of the fluctuations around the distinct molecular axes.
