Determination of boundaries between ranges of high and low gradient of beam profile

2016

Abstract Aim This work addresses the problem of treatment planning system commissioning by introducing a new method of determination of boundaries between high and low gradient in beam profile. Background The commissioning of a treatment planning system is a very important task in the radiation therapy. One of the main goals of this task is to compare two field profiles: measured and calculated. Applying points of 80% and 120% of nominal field size can lead to the incorrect determination of boundaries, especially for small field sizes. Materials and methods The method that is based on the beam profile gradient allows for proper assignment of boundaries between high and low gradient regions …

New solutions for prefabricated secondary substations in the view of sustainability

2016

The secondary substations will assume an important role as “smart nodes” of the smart grid. So in few years there will be a widespread dissemination on the territory of this apparatus. Consequently, great care have to be taken not only on safety issues, but also on the constructive methodology, in order to determine low environmental impact and decommissioning cost. This paper focuses on innovative solutions for the realization of prefabricated secondary substations, in the direction of sustainability. Innovative layout and enclosure topologies have been here taken into account. In particular, by considering that the substation concrete box is, at the same time, uneconomical and with strong…

Composite Material Recycling Technology—State-of-the-Art and Sustainable Development for the 2020s

2021

Recently, significant events took place that added immensely to the sociotechnical pressure for developing sustainable composite recycling solutions, namely (1) a ban on composite landfilling in Germany in 2009, (2) the first major wave of composite wind turbines reaching their End-of-Life (EoL) and being decommissioned in 2019–2020, (3) the acceleration of aircraft decommissioning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and (4) the increase of composites in mass production cars, thanks to the development of high volume technologies based on thermoplastic composites. Such sociotechnical pressure will only grow in the upcoming decade of 2020s as other countries are to follow Germany by limiting and ba…

Daily wellbeing in families with children: A harmonious and a disharmonious week

2014

AbstractWhat makes daily life in families with young children harmonious, and are there better and worse times? Applying a daily approach, the present study examined one week in dual-earner families with young children, with special focus on families that reported either a harmonious or a disharmonious week in their family interaction. Quantitative and qualitative diary data were collected with mobile phones and with paper and pencil from 45 families. Fourteen families representing either disharmonious or harmonious interaction were chosen for a detailed analysis of good and difficult moments in the spousal and parent–child relationship. What most clearly distinguished these weeks was not t…

Ignacio de las Casas, evengelizzatore "soave".

2010

The Jesuit from Granada Ignacio de las Casas (1550-1608) wrote a composite manuscript - which included official documents, memorials, instructions and decisions - which is today kept in London British Library. The manuscript clearly shows his point of view about the painful and intricate expulsion of the moriscos from Spain between XVI and XVII century. He was not in agreement with the banishment and proscription(destierro)policy and at the time this opinion was not so widespread; he thought instead that it was necessary to leave behind the forced conversions (which compelled to simulation), but conversely to achieve a policy of integration, to abolish tax discrimination, to get moriscos ou…

Web system to support analysis of the Tile Calorimeter commissioning

2008

This article describes the set of computer systems that support the data analysis and quality control during the Tile Calorimeter commissioning phase. The Tile Commissioning Web System (TCWS) encapsulates the steps to retrieve information, execute programs, access the outcomes, register statements and verify the equipment status. TCWS integrates different applications, each one presenting a particular view of the commissioning process. The TileComm Analysis stores plots and analysis results, provides equipment-oriented visualization, collects information regarding the equipment performance, and outlines its status in each test. The Timeline application provides the equipment status history …

Construction and commissioning of the S-Band high gradient RF laboratory at IFIC

2018

An S-band High-Gradient (HG) Radio Frequency (RF) laboratory is under construction and commissioning at IFIC. The purpose of the laboratory is to perform investigations of high-gradient phenomena and to develop normal-conducting RF technology, with special focus on RF systems for hadron-therapy. The layout of the facility is derived from the scheme of the Xbox-3 test facility at CERN [1] and uses medium peak-power (7.5 MW) and high repetition rate (400 Hz) klystrons, whose RF output is combined to drive two testing slots to the required power. The design and construction of the various components of the system started in 2016 and has been completed. The installation and commissioning of the…

The market orientation-innovation-success relationship: The role of internationalization strategy

2011

AbstractThis paper is focused on how relationships between market orientation strategy, innovation and business success could differ in an international context. The article develops a theoretical framework as an overview to the main relationships between these concepts. It also shows that international strategy can play a determinant role in this framework. Therefore, the article presents a study that includes interviewing 154 Spanish textile firm managers with the aim of contrasting market orientation– innovation–success relationships and the role of internationalization strategy. Results show that market orientation is related to innovation, and innovation to success, both in internation…

The ATLAS level-1 trigger: Status of the system and first results from cosmic-ray data

2007

The ATLAS detector at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will be exposed to proton-proton collisions from beams crossing at 40 MHz. At the design luminosity of 10^34 cm^-2 s^-1 there are on average 23 collisions per bunch crossing. A three-level trigger system will select potentially interesting events in order to reduce the read-out rate to about 200 Hz. The first trigger level is implemented in custom-built electronics and makes an initial fast selection based on detector data of coarse granularity. It has to reduce the rate by a factor of 10^4 to less than 100 kHz. The other two consecutive trigger levels are in software and run on PC farms. We present an overview of the first-level trig…
