The Implications Of The Foot Health Status In Parkinson Patients : A Case-Control Study

2022

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects bothhealth of the feet, as to gait patterns. This study aimed to find out about footproblems and their impact on self-perceived quality of life and related to foothealth in Parkinson's patients compared to a group of healthy subjects and tomeasure it with Spanish Podiatry Health Questionnaire (PHQ-S). It is about acase–control study in a sample of Parkinson's patients n=62, healthy controlsn=62. The PHQ-S was reported, it describes perception the subject has ineach of podiatric 6 dimensions consulted, assessing appreciation of health sta-tus of interviewee's feet and a self-rated the foot health score on the visual ana-lo…

2011

This Book deals with the duties of directors in the Italian “società a responsabilità limitata” (s.r.l.), corresponding to a limited liability company without shares, in order to focus on the logic and limits of the directors’ liability and to combat any abusive bringing of the remedies laid down to enforce the above-mentioned duties. For such a purpose, the Book contains: an analysis of the interests involved, both in a s.r.l. “in bonis” and in a s.r.l. in crisis; a comparison with the same issues and solutions in the USA, England, Germany and Switzerland; and the idea to interpret the legal framework in the light of a concept of reasonableness which is more elaborate than that employed by…

Factors contributing to the variability in muscle ageing

2012

a b s t r a c t Ageing is accompanied with a progressive loss of muscle mass and force generating capacity. Ultimately, the muscle wasting and weakness may dramatically impact on mobility and the quality of life, where the elderly has increasing problems with performing activities of daily life, such as rising from a chair or climbing stairs. The rate of structural and functional deterioration of muscle appears to vary considerably between people. Part of the variation in the 'rate of muscle ageing' is attributable to genetic factors, the timing of changes in circulating hormones and the presence or absence of chronic low-grade systemic inflammation. Where an individual cannot change much i…

Recognizing actions with the associative self-organizing map

2013

When artificial agents interact and cooperate with other agents, either human or artificial, they need to recognize others’ actions and infer their hidden intentions from the sole observation of their surface level movements. Indeed, action and intention understanding in humans is believed to facilitate a number of social interactions and is supported by a complex neural substrate (i.e. the mirror neuron system). Implementation of such mechanisms in artificial agents would pave the route to the development of a vast range of advanced cognitive abilities, such as social interaction, adaptation, and learning by imitation, just to name a few. We present a first step towards a fully-fledged int…

Venerari Contendere Adicere: Roman Emulation, Intergenerational Reciprocity, and the Ancient Idea of Progress

2019

Over the past few decades, the successful emergence of intertextuality, with its careful investigation of the dynamics of imitation, allusion, and emulation, has effectively challenged the Romantic notions of creativity and individual authorship. In the wide-open field left by the postmodern ‘death of the author’, however, the territory of culture as a network of patterns hiding behind the text has often been restricted within the boundaries of literary culture. In this paper, I will attempt to enlarge such a text-centred perspective by highlighting the often neglected connections between family education, intergenerational reciprocity, and aesthetic thought in Roman culture. Indeed, long b…

Vehicle scheduling for rental-with-driver services

2021

Abstract In this paper, we introduce a new vehicle scheduling problem (VSP) with driver consistency faced by rental-with-driver companies. A weekly time-horizon is considered and a set of potential customers, each one associated with a list of required tasks, is assumed. The company can choose to accept or reject a customer, but if accepted, all required tasks must be performed by the same driver. A profit is associated with each customer. The goal is to maximize the company’s total profit, by respecting a list of daily and the weekly drivers’ workload limitations imposed by drivers’ contracts. We propose a mathematical formulation of the problem and design an exact solution method based on…
