Fault-proneness of open source software: Exploring its relations to internal software quality and maintenance process
2013
The goal of this study is to explore how fault-proneness of open source software (OSS) could be explained in terms of internal quality attributes and maintenance process metrics. We reviewed earlier studies and performed a multiple case study of eight Java-based projects based on data available in the Source Forge repository. Overall, we studied 342 re- leases of those systems. As is usual, software quality was regarded as a set of internal and external quality attributes. A to- tal of 76 internal quality attributes were measured from the source code of the selected systems via the tool SoftCalc. Two external quality attributes contributing to fault-proneness were in turn obtained from the …
Validity of three smartwatches in estimating energy expenditure during outdoor walking and running.
2022
Commercially wrist-worn devices often present inaccurate estimations of energy expenditure (EE), with large between-device differences. We aimed to assess the validity of the Apple Watch Series 6 (AW), Garmin FENIX 6 (GF) and Huawei Watch GT 2e (HW) in estimating EE during outdoor walking and running. Twenty young normal-weight Chinese adults concurrently wore three index devices randomly positioned at both wrists during walking at 6 km/h and running at 10 km/h for 2 km on a 400- meter track. As a criterion, EE was assessed by indirect calorimetry (COSMED K5). For walking, EE from AW and GF was significantly higher than that obtained by the K5 (p < 0.001 and 0.002, respectively), but…
"Opeta, mittaa, kehitä": yrittäjyyskasvatuksen mittaristo hallinnallisena artefaktina
2015
Ulkoisesti neutraalilta ja poliittisesti jopa mitättömältä vaikuttava yrittäjyyskasvatuksen mittaristo voidaan tiedon, subjektiviteetin ja vallan näkökulmasta analysoituna ymmärtää aktiivisena poliittisena toimijana. peerReviewed
Äskettäin diagnosoitujen Parkinsonin tautia sairastavien potilaiden kävely ja tasapaino : itsekoetun ja mitatun pystyasennon hallinnan ja kävelyn suo…
2013
Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää äskettäin diagnosoidun Parkinson-potilaan itsearvioimaa pystyasennon hallintaa ja kävelyä suhteessa valittuihin kliinisten mittausten muuttujiin. Tutkimuksessa käytetyt mittarit olivat Bergin tasapainotesti (BBS), Timed Up and Go-testi (TUG), Four Square Stepping Test (FSST), GoodBalance ja GaitRite.
Development of an inductive NIS thermometer
2012
Normal metal-Insulator-Superconductor (NIS) tunnel junction thermometers have been under heavy research since 1976 after Rowell and Tsui first presented thanks to their excellent sensitivity to the temperature change in millikelvin regime. In this work, we have designed and studied an inductive readout for NIS tunnel junctions by using on-chip planar inductors and a DC SQUID (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) to develop a sensitive and fast thermometer for studies of nanoscale heat conduction and bolometry. In this thesis, the processing of the samples fabricated in Nanoscience Center in Jyväskylä are presented, and several processing challenges have been dealt with and the fabri…
Walking, physical activity and life-space mobility among older people
2017
Autonomy in mobility is a central component of active ageing. Life-space mobility describes where, when, and how an individual reaches desired destinations. Walking, an important form of physical activity among older people, is a prerequisite for engaging in daily activities. This study explored the cross-sectional and longitudinal relationships between physical activity and life-space mobility. The associations of walking with reasons for going outdoors in different life-space areas, living arrangements, and environmental barriers to mobility were also examined. Data from two larger studies were used: the Life-Space Mobility in Old Age (LISPE) accelerometer substudy (n=174, median age 79.7…
The structural validity of the Finnish version of the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand : a Rasch model analysis
2020
Abstract Introduction: The construct validity of the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand questionnaire (DASH) has previously been questioned. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the measurement properties of the Finnish version of the DASH for assessing disability in patients with hand complaints using Rasch Measurement Theory. Methods: A cohort of 193 patients with typical hand and wrist complaints were recruited at a surgery outpatient clinic. The DASH scores were analysed using the Rasch model for differential item functioning, unidimensionality, fit statistics, item residual correlation, coverage/targeting and reliability. Results: In the original DASH questionnaire, the it…
Methodological Guidelines Designed to Improve the Quality of Research on Cross-Country Skiing
2021
AbstractCross-country (XC) ski races involve a variety of formats, two different techniques and tracks with highly variable topography and environmental conditions. In addition, XC skiing is a major component of both Nordic combined and biathlon competitions. Research in this area, both in the laboratory and field, encounters certain difficulties that may reduce the reliability and validity of the data obtained, as well as complicate comparisons between studies. Here, 13 international experts propose specific guidelines designed to enhance the quality of research and publications on XC skiing, as well as on the biathlon and Nordic combined skiing. We consider biomechanical (kinematic, kinet…
A systematic review of functional numeracy measures for 9–12 -year-olds: Validity and reliability evidence
2023
This systematic review aimed to summarize the characteristics and the measurement properties of functional numeracy measures developed for use by teachers among 9–12-year-old children with or without mathematical learning difficulties. A systematic search from five databases was conducted based on pre-defined criteria. PRISMA guidelines were followed for reporting the results. The terminology and classification of measurement properties adopted by the COSMIN taxonomy was used. Twenty-one studies of 18 measures met the inclusion criteria. Most of the identified measures did not report on several measurement properties due to incomplete or missing psychometric data. Knowledge of Mathematical …
Linguistic, Contextual, and Experiential Equivalence Issues in the Adaptation of a Performance-Based Assessment of Generic Skills in Higher Education
2022
This qualitative study investigated the various linguistic, contextual, and experiential equivalence issues embedded in a performance-based instrument aimed at assessing generic skills in higher education. A rigorous translation and adaptation process (American English to Finnish) was conducted on one instrument, namely Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA+) International. The data were obtained from cognitive laboratories (n = 13), with think-alouds and follow-up interviews conducted among Finnish undergraduate students. Content logs were created, and the data were analyzed thematically. The findings revealed that linguistic and contextual equivalence issues were more prominent than experie…
