Controlling ground-state rotational dynamics of molecules by shaped femtosecond laser pulses

We report controlled excitation of ground-state rotational wave packet by pulse-shaping technique. The experiment is conducted in nitrogen $({\mathrm{N}}_{2})$ at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. A femtosecond laser pulse produces rotational coherences in the vibronic ground state of ${\mathrm{N}}_{2}$ through an impulsive Raman process. The laser pulse is tailored using a spatial light modulator producing spectral phase modulation. Periodic phase steps are applied in order to control the excitation of specific rotational Raman transitions. Chemical and physical modification of hemp fibres by steam explosion technology

In current research attempt has been made to analyse hemp fibres treated with steam explosion (SE) technology. Disintegration of hemp fibres separated from non-retted, dew-retted and dried stems of hemp ('Purini')[1] by alkali treatment and steam explosion (SE) were investigated. An average intensive SE in combination with the hydro-thermal and alkali after-treatment allows decreasing the diameter of hemp fibres and reduce the concentration of non-celluloses components, among them hemicelluloses, lignin, pectin, waxes and water [1;2].

To investigate the seasonal changes of infiltration rates, measurements by means of simulated rainfall experiments and cylinder infiltrometer were done in a small E–W oriented watershed in Southeast Spain. Data were collected during both the wet seasons (autumn, winter and spring) and the dry season (summer). Infiltration rates were very high in summer, when direct surface runoff is very low. During the wet seasons, the infiltration rates were lower due to the increase in soil moisture. Measurements by means of both ponding as well as simulated rainfall are suitable to study the infiltration process. Complete genome sequence of a new Bacteroidaceae bacterium isolated from anaerobic biomass digestion

Here, we present the genome sequence and annotation of HV4-6-C5C, a bacterial strain isolated from a mesophilic two-stage laboratory-scale leach bed biogas reactor system. Strain HV4-6-C5C may represent a new genus of the family Bacteroidaceae and may have a key role in acidogenesis and acetogenesis steps during anaerobic biomass digestion.
Booster vaccination after neonatal priming with acellular pertussis vaccine.

After a birth dose of acellular pertussis (aP) and diphtheria (DT)aP-hepatitis B virus (HBV)-inactivated polio vaccine (IPV)/ Haemophilus influenza type b (Hib) at 2, 4, and 6 months, a booster dose of DTaP-HBV-IPV/Hib at 12 to 23 months induced strong anti-pertussis booster responses. Thus, neonatal aP priming did not lead to immune tolerance to pertussis antigens. However, it elicited bystander interference on HBV, Hib, and diphtheria responses.

Joint probability distributions for wind speed and direction. A case study in Sicily

In this study we analyze data of hourly average wind speed and direction measured at three different sampling stations located in Sicily (Italy) and provide a statistical model for their joint probability density function. Singly truncated from below Normal Weibull mixture distribution and a linear combination of von Mises distributions are used to model wind speed and direction. Sites with heterogeneous local conditions (prevailing wind direction and/or elevation) have been considered in order to investigate the reliability of the model here taken into consideration.
Direct NMR evidence for the dissociation of sulfur-dioxide-bound acetaldehyde under acidic conditions: Impact on wines oxidative stability

Abstract SO2 reaction with electrophilic species present in wine, including in particular carbonyl compounds, is responsible for the reduction of its protective effect during wine aging. In the present study, direct 1H NMR profiling used to monitor the reactivity of SO2 with acetaldehyde under wine-like oxidation conditions. The dissociation of acetaldehyde bound SO2 was evidenced suggesting that released free SO2 can further act as an antioxidant. EPR and DPPH assays showed an increasing antioxidant capacity of wine with the increase in the concentration of acetaldehyde sulfonate. The presence of acetaldehyde sulfonate in wines was correlated with the overall antioxidant activity of wines.…
Effect of different aqueous solutions of pure salts and salt mixtures in reverse electrodialysis systems for closed-loop applications

Abstract Reverse Electrodialysis (RED) in a closed-loop arrangement is a viable way to convert low-grade heat into electric power. The present work experimentally investigates the use of pure salt- and equimolar two salts-water solutions as feeds in a lab-scale RED unit. RED performances were analysed in terms of Open Circuit Voltage (OCV), stack resistance and corrected power density. The pure salts and the mixtures employed were chosen via a computational analysis.
