Advanced performance monitoring for self-healing cellular mobile networks

2015

This dissertation is devoted to development and validation of advanced per- formance monitoring system for existing and future cellular mobile networks. Knowledge mining techniques are employed for analysis of user specific logs, collected with Minimization of Drive Tests (MDT) functionality. Ever increas- ing quality requirements, expansion of the mobile networks and their extend- ing heterogeneity, call for effective automatic means of performance monitoring. Nowadays, network operation is mostly controlled manually through aggregated key performance indicators and statistical profiles. These methods are are not able to fully address the dynamism and complexity of modern mobile networks. Se…

On the use of composite indicators for mobile communications network management in smart sustainable cities

2020

Beyond 5G networks will be fundamental towards enabling sustainable mobile communication networks. One of the most challenging scenarios will be met in ultra-dense networks that are deployed in densely populated areas. In this particular case, mobile network operators should benefit from new assessment metrics and data science tools to ensure an effective management of their networks. In fact, incorporating architectures allowing a cognitive network management framework could simplify processes and enhance the network&rsquo

Mobile Apps and Social Media

2017

1The increasing penetration of smartphones among global population, especially among youth and children, has define a mobile and interactive media use without any precedent. A global connected world is the context in where our offspring are developing self-competences in media literacy because they manage technological devices at very early ages. This context is the state of affairs of this article in which we present two different steps: firstly, a theoretical study, showing the impact of mobile devices, focusing on smartphones and mobile applications where the question arisen is: What are children and young doing while online? Media literacy is also described in order to apply its dimensi…

Mobile phone use and social generations in rural India

2017

This article avails the concept of social generation to explore how intergenerational differences contribute to the diversity in the appropriation of mobile telephony in rural India. Rural India has experienced numerous social changes such as the decline of agriculture, changes in caste and gender relationships, and rising levels of education which have influenced different age groups in distinct ways during recent decades. The article is based on interviews, observation, and survey data on the use of mobile phones in a village in rural West Bengal during 2005, 2007–2008, 2010, and 2012–2013. peerReviewed

Effects of Positioning Aids on Understanding the Relationship Between a Mobile Map and the Environment

2013

Positioning technologies such as GPS enable mobile map applications to display a symbol representing an estimation of a user’s location on a mobile map, therefore acting as a positioning aid. Previous research on the cognitive processes involved in map reading suggests that map readers need at least two map–environment points (objects that are visualized on the map and perceived in the environment) for determining their location on a map. Hence, the positioning aid alone does not provide enough information for self-location. Using a field experiment, we assessed the effect of representing the user’s location on a map on the cognitive processes involved in self-location. The results show tha…

SEMANTIC AND CONTEXTUAL APPROACH FOR THE RECOMMENDATION OF LEARNING MODULES IN MOBILITY

2012

International audience; Many researchers argue that mobile learning is just an adaptation of e-learning on mobile technology, but far from a simple extension of e-learning, m-learning raises original issues in technological and pedagogical terms. M-learning is usually based on the consideration of a context rich on information and interactions. The challenge of m-learning is therefore, not simply to transfer on mobile content designed primarily for e-learning. This concept implies that we must rethink the entire process of the learning experience in mobility to maximize its efficiency.

Recommender system for combination of learning elements in mobile environment

2012

5 pages; International audience; The paper presents an ongoing research about the development of a new recommender system dedicated to m-learning. This system is an extension of content based recommender system proposals. It's made of three levels architecture: 1/ a domain model describing the knowledge of teaching, 2/ a user model defining learner's profile and learning's context, 3/ an adaptation model containing rules and metaheuristics, which aims at combining learning modules. Our system takes into account the spatio-temporal context of the learners, the evolution of learner's profile and the dynamic adaptation of modules during the learning process in a mobile environment. The result …

MEASURES FOR STIMULATING COMPETITION ON MOBILE SERVICES MARKET IN ROMANIA TO MAXIMIZE BENEFITS FOR END USERS

2010

In the last years, the market of mobile services in Romania had a huge success; the number of users of this type of services is constantly growing. The interest of the investors who were encouraged by statistics and have recently appeared on the market shows that Romanians are leaders in mobile services and that people are very attached to their mobile devices. ANCOM – the National Authority for Administration and Regulation in Communications) is the institution governing the mobile services market in Romania which establishes the rules and ensures that the market players comply with these regulations. Its mission is to ensure arbitrage on the communications market and genuine competition f…
