The dimensions of mobilities: The spatial relationships between corporeal and digital mobilities

2013

Abstract The aim of this article is to study how the corporeal and digital mobilities are spatially organised in relation to each other in everyday life. The dimensions of mobilities are modelled by using survey data (N = 612) collected from Finland in 2011, Multiple Correspondence Analysis (MCA) and Multiple Regression Analysis (MRA). The results show that the combined use of corporeal and digital means of mobility affect the spatial organisation of mobilities only little. The results indicate that young people and students are more likely to benefit from their mobility in networking activities as they are equipped with a larger variety of mobility means than older people and pensioners. Individual and environmental factors underlying life space of older people – study protocol and design of a cohort study on life-space mobility in ol…

2012

Abstract Background A crucial issue for the sustainability of societies is how to maintain health and functioning in older people. With increasing age, losses in vision, hearing, balance, mobility and cognitive capacity render older people particularly exposed to environmental barriers. A central building block of human functioning is walking. Walking difficulties may start to develop in midlife and become increasingly prevalent with age. Life-space mobility reflects actual mobility performance by taking into account the balance between older adults internal physiologic capacity and the external challenges they encounter in daily life. The aim of the Life-Space Mobility in Old Age (LISPE) p…

Mobility determination of lead isotopes in glass for retrospective radon measurements rad

2008

In retrospective radon measurements, the 22-y half life of 210Pb is used as an advantage. 210Pb is often considered to be relatively immobile in glass after alpha recoil implanted by 222Rn progenies. The diffusion of 210Pb could, however, lead to uncertain wrong retrospective radon exposure estimations if 210Pb is mobile and can escape from glass, or lost as a result of cleaning-induced surface modification. This diffusion was studied by a radiotracer technique, where 209Pb was used as a tracer in a glass matrix for which the elemental composition is known. Using the ion guide isotope separator on-line technique, the 209Pb atoms were implanted into the glass with an energy of 39 keV. The di…

Iedzīvotāju izvietojums, mobilitāte un ģentrifikācija: Brasas un Grīziņkalna gadījuma izpēte Rīgā

2021

The effect of chemical treatment of stainless steel wire surfaces onZymomonas mobilis cell attachment and product synthesis

1998

The attachment, growth and product synthesis of non-flocculating Zymomonas mobilis cells, fixed in stainless steel wire spheres (WS), were investigated. The carrier surface was activated by treatment with titanium (IV) chloride (TiCl 4 ) and γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (AS) in an attempt to raise the efficiency in the immobilization of the cells. System productivity for ethanol and levan production, using cells immobilized on a modified stainless steel surface in the batch fermentation of a sucrose medium, rose as a result of increased biomass compared to the productivity of cells fixed on untreated (control) metal surfaces. Stabilized ethanol synthesis was demonstrated in the course of fo…

Proposal of a Citrus translational genomic approach for early and infield detection of Flavescence dorée in Vitis

2014

Flavescence dore´e (FD) is one of the most widely known grapevine yellows disease and one of the most unabated worldwide in the viticulture sector. In this paper, we outline a strategy for developing an integrated system of technologies to enable rapid, early disease FD detection and diagnosis. We propose the deployment of a newly developed sensor device, the differential mobility spectrometer (DMS), which has shown positive results with a similar vector-borne disease in Citrus. We have previously demonstrated that the gas chromatograph DMS (GC/DMS) can distinguish various citrus diseases, and the system may also allow detection of volatile organic compound (VOC) signals from a tree of othe…
