QUANTUM MODELING OF LOVE AFFAIRS
2010
We adopt the so-called number representation, originally used in quantum me- chanics and recently considered in the description of stock markets, in the analysis of the dynamics of love relation. We present a simple model, involv- ing two actors (Alice and Bob), and we consider either a linear model or a nonlinear model.
A mathematical model of counterflow superfluid turbulence describing heat waves and vortex-density waves
2008
The interaction between vortex density waves and high-frequency second sound in counterflow superfluid turbulence is examined, incorporating diffusive and elastic contributions of the vortex tangle. The analysis is based on a set of evolution equations for the energy density, the heat flux, the vortex line density, and the vortex flux, the latter being considered here as an independent variable, in contrast to previous works. The latter feature is crucial in the transition from diffusive to propagative behavior of vortex density perturbations, which is necessary to interpret the details of high-frequency second sound.
Linear-scaling self-consistent field theory based molecular dynamics: application to C60buckyballs colliding with graphite
2018
In this work, we investigate the collision of a C fullerene with graphite using large-scale molecular dynamics simulations, where the interatomic forces are computed ‘on-the-fly’ by means of self-c...
Numerical Simulations and Diagnostics in Astrophysics: A few Magnetohydrodynamics Examples
2007
We discuss some issues related to numerical simulations in Astrophysics and, in particular, to their use both as a theoretical tool and as a diagnostic tool, to gain insight into the physical phenomena at work. We make our point presenting some examples of Magneto-hydro-dynamic (MHD) simulations of astrophysical plasmas and illustrating their use. In particular we show the need for appropriate tools to interpret, visualize and present results in an adequate form, and the importance of spectral synthesis for a direct comparison with observations.
Contour detection based on nonlinear discrete diffusion in a cellular nonlinear network
2001
International audience; A contour detection based on a diffusive cellular nonlinear network is proposed. It is shown that there exists a particular nonlinear function for which, numerically, the obtained contour is satisfactory. Furthermore, this nonlinear function can be achieved using analog components.
Continuum constitutive laws to describe acoustic attenuation in glasses
2020
International audience; Nowadays metamaterials are at the focus of an intense research as promising for thermal and acoustic engineering. However, the computational cost associated to the large system size required for correctly simulating them imposes the use of finite-elements simulations, developing continuum models, able to grasp the physics at play without entering in the atomistic details. Still, a correct description should be able to reproduce not only the extrinsic scattering sources on waves propagation, as introduced by the metamaterial microstructure, but also the intrinsic wave attenuation of the material itself. This becomes dramatically important when the metamaterial is made…

Wavelength-flattened directional couplers for mirror-symmetric interferometers
2005
In the context of guided optics, we derive, analytically and geometrically, a rigorous general criterion to design wavelength insensitive interferometers with mirror symmetry, which are needed for wavelength multiplexing/demultiplexing. The criterion is applied to a practical case, resulting in an interferometer that works on a band wider than 70 nm.
CNN-based People Detection in Voxel Space using Intensity Measurements and Point Cluster Flattening
2021
In this paper real-time people detection is demonstrated in a relatively large indoor industrial robot cell as well as in an outdoor environment. Six depth sensors mounted at the ceiling are used to generate a merged point cloud of the cell. The merged point cloud is segmented into clusters and flattened into gray-scale 2D images in the xy and xz planes. These images are then used as input to a classifier based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs). The final output is the 3D position (x,y,z) and bounding box representing the human. The system is able to detect and track multiple humans in real-time, both indoors and outdoors. The positional accuracy of the proposed method has been verifi…
