Reverse remodeling and arrhythmic burden reduction in a patient with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator treated with sacubitril/valsartan: Cas…

2020

Abstract Sacubitril/valsartan has been shown to reduce cardiovascular mortality and hospitalizations in patients with HFrEF when compared to enalapril. There are also some evidences of its potential antiarrhythmic effects. We present a report where we found a relation between reverse ventricular remodeling and arrhythmic reduction in a patient treated with sacubitril/valsartan.

The QRS narrowing index for easy and early identification of responder to cardiac resynchronization therapy.

2013

The rationale for cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) in patients with heart failure (HF) is based on the possibility of inducing substantial left ventricular reverse remodeling. It is well known that some of these patients don't benefit from this therapy (the so-called non-responders) [1,2]. No better predictors of a positive answer to CRT than pre-CRT QRS duration (QRSd) were found [3,4]. The aim of our study was to identify a parameter for an easy and early identification of responders to CRT. In this regard, according to Rickard et al., we identified and observed QRS index (QI), as an expression of electrical remodeling after CRT, and its relation with anatomic reverse remodeling, e…

The Effects of Sacubitril/Valsartan on Clinical, Biochemical and Echocardiographic Parameters in Patients with Heart Failure with Reduced Ejection Fr…

2019

Background: Sacubitril/valsartan has been shown to be superior to enalapril in reducing the risks of death and hospitalization for heart failure (HF). However, knowledge of the impact on cardiac performance remains limited. We sought to evaluate the effects of sacubitril/valsartan on clinical, biochemical and echocardiographic parameters in patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Methods: Sacubitril/valsartan was administered to 205 HFrEF patients. Results: Among 230 patients (mean age 59 &plusmn

Single and Synergistic Effects of Type 2 Cytokines on Eosinophils and Asthma Hallmarks

2020

Abstract The type 2 cytokines IL-5, IL-13, and IL-4 play an important role in the induction and progression of asthma. According to the Global Initiative for Asthma guidelines, blood eosinophil numbers are one marker that helps to guide treatment decisions in patients suffering from severe forms of asthma. Effects of type 2 cytokines were analyzed, alone or in combination, on eosinophils in blood and other compartments and on the development of asthma symptoms. C57BL/6 mice received a single intranasal application of equimolar amounts of IL-5, IL-13, and IL-4, alone or in combination. Numbers, activation state, and migratory behavior of eosinophils in bone marrow (BM), blood, lung, and bron…

Understanding the relationship between subjective health complaints and satisfaction with life for people in prevocational training in Norway

2021

Background and aim: In Norway, a large part of the population is dependent on disability benefits. The main reasons for this are related to long-term musculoskeletal pain and psychological complaints. Prevocational rehabilitation, aimed at increasing participation in working life, targets people in need of a sheltered vocational environment. This group has been found to report a very high level of health complaints. Therefore, a better understanding of the psychological mechanisms affecting satisfaction with life for people who experience subjective health complaints could be important for tailoring more optimal vocational rehabilitation initiatives for these individuals. This study aimed t…

DEVELOPMENT AND MODELING OF MEMBRANE PROCESSES FOR THE REGENERATION OF ACID PICKLING SOLUTIONS

2021

The doctoral thesis focuses on a novel integrated process for the recovery and valorisation of acid and metal salts present in the waste solutions of the pickling process. The proposed process is based on the integration of two innovative membrane technologies, the Diffusion Dialysis and the Membrane Distillation, coupled with a reactive precipitation section. This hybrid process allows the recovery and the enhancement of waste solutions, as well as optimal operating conditions for the continuous pickling process, thus improving its efficiency. Hydrochloric acid recovery was assessed through a detailed study on the Diffusion Dialysis process by implementing a wide experimental campaign usin…

Analytical model for the long- distance tracer-transport in plants

2011

International audience; Recent investigations of long-distance transport in plants using non-invasive tracer techniques such as C radiolabeling monitored by positron emission tomography (PET) combined with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed the need of dedicated methods to allow a quantitative data analysis and comparison of such experiments. A mechanistic compartmental tracer transport model is presented, defined by a linear system of partial differential equations (PDEs). This model simplifies the complexity of axial transport and lateral exchanges in the transport pathways of plants (e.g. the phloem) by simulating transport and reversible exchange within three compartments using j…

The importance of social networks in the Norwegian firewood industry

2013

Accepted version of an article from journal of Biomass and Bioenergy This study examines the relationship between social network size, innovation and firm performance among firewood producers in Norway. Moreover, it investigates how this relationship is affected both by the structure and variations in networks and by firm size and age. A questionnaire-based survey was sent to managers of firms (including one-person firms) in the firewood industry in Norway. A total of 645 usable replies were received, and the theoretical model was tested using structural equation modeling. The findings show that social network size has a positive effect on firm performance via innovation by firewood produce…

Transporta plūsmu kustības ātruma un strukturālo izmaiņu modelēšana Valdemāra ielas kanjona posmos

2015

Bakalaura darba ietvaros pētīta autotransporta radītā atmosfēras piesārņojuma izplatība Rīgā, Valdemāra ielas kanjonā. Kā indikators ietekmes novērtēšanai izmantotas slāpekļa dioksīda koncentrācijas, kuras cieši korelē ar transporta līdzekļu plūsmas intensitāti; bez tam regulāri tiek pārsniegti slāpekļa dioksīdam noteiktie stundas un gada normatīvi. Piesārņojuma izplatība novērtēta izmantojot matemātisko modelis OSPM, kurš speciāli izstrādāts transporta radītā piesārņojuma dispersijai un raksturošanai. Darbā aprakstīta transporta plūsmas dinamika dažādiem dienu profiliem un izveidota datu bāze modelēšanai, raksturota piesārņojuma problemātika ielu kanjonos, modelēšanas ceļā novērtēta apbūve…
