A Direct Comparison of Seprafilm, Adept, Intercoat, and Spraygel for Adhesion Prophylaxis

Background Commercially available agents for adhesion prophylaxis are legion but there is a lack of direct comparisons between them. Here we compare four of the most commonly used adhesion barriers against a control group in a clinically relevant rat model. Material and Methods Standardized lesions were created in Wistar rats using electrocautery and suturing. Standardized deep partial-thickness burns were inflicted on domestic pigs by scalding 30 per cent of the skin surface for 25 s with 75 degrees C hot water. Waterjet dissection is accomplished with Helix Hydro-Jet, but a new device with improved operative handling and potentially superior dissection qualities has been developed.Eighty-four fresh cadaveric pig brains were simultaneously cut with Helix Hydro-Jet and Erbejet 2. A commonly used applicator and a new applicator for the Helix Hydro-Jet were directly compared to the new Erbejet 2. Under standardised conditions, different pressure levels were applied to the brain surface without arachnoids. Aims We compared a newly developed irrigated gold tip electrode ablation catheter and a gold tip 4 and 8 mm catheter with the corresponding platinum–iridium (Pt) tip catheters in an in vitro setting. Methods and results In a flow chamber simulating physiological flow conditions, radiofrequency catheter ablation was performed on tissue samples of porcine endomyocardium and liver.
