This paper presents a synthetic history of the emergence of experimental poetry in Spain, focused on the expressive utopia of the integration of the arts as a supranational language and a replica of the hegemony of image in mass culture. Perception and the ‘I’ in Samuel Beckett’s Company and Francis Bacon’s Paintings

2016

This art…

Aikalaiskritiikin mahdollisuus: Etiikka ja estetiikka Theodor W. Adornon kulttuurifilosofiassa

2015

Monoscopic Photogrammetry to Investigate the Buildings in the Period of Modernism in Salerno: The Case Study of Torquato Tasso High School

2021

The city of Salerno and the expansion that underwent in the 1920s in order to respond to the urban expansion following the demographic increase that occurred at the beginning of the century will be the topics discussed in this paper. Transformations that created a face to the city that, in its forms, although not linked to the most advanced avant-garde, represent a testimony of the new characteristics of the “modern” city. Within this evolutionary process of the province of Salerno there is the 1928 project of two engineers, Michele and his son Luigi De Angelis for the construction of the “Regio” School. In a first moment, several projects found in the archives refer mainly to the various l…

Kirjoittamisen arkipäiväistäminen Pentti Saarikosken ja Mirkka Rekolan runoudessa

2014

Writing as Part of the Everyday in Pentti Saarikoski’s and Mirkka Rekola’s Poetry This article examines the processes of writing as part of the everyday in Pentti Saarikoski’s kuljen missa kuljen and Mirkka Rekola’s Ilo ja epasymmetria, both published in 1965. I argue that both collections make this process visible, and both authors thus actively participate in the discussion about poetry in the 1960s through their poetry. While Saarikoski’s poetry was appreciated as communicative, democratic poetry, Rekola’s writing was considered as old-fashioned modernist poetry – a characterization associated at the time also with Finnish-Swedish poetry. In this article, I show that despite the attitude…

Aleksandr Prochanov, o la Crimea come antidoto al postmoderno

2019

When Aleksandr Prokhanov’s Mr. Hexogen appeared in 2001 most critics perceived it as a postmodern novel – a totally unexpected move from this author, a long-standing Soviet writer and a leader of the Stalinist-nationalist opposition. The work shows indeed some features in common with, for instance, Babylon by Viktor Pelevin, one of the most popular Russian postmodern writers. Both novels demonstrate a phantasmagoric picture of the hidden side of Russian political life: if, however, in Pelevin’s case the intent is clearly ironic, Mr. Hexogen can be read as a book aimed to convey the view that the Moscow terrorist attacks of winter 1999 were designed in order to ensure Putin’s raise to presid…

Theoretical orientations of spanish psychotherapists: Integration and eclecticism as modern and postmodern cultural trends.

2006

In this article, we focus on the theoretical orientations of Spanish psychotherapists with reference to the concepts of integration and eclecticism associated respectively with the cultural patterns of modernity and postmodernity. Data are reported from 179 Spanish therapists who responded to the Development of Psychotherapists Common Core Questionnaire (Orlinsky et al., 1999). The results indicated that these Spanish therapists do not show a tendency toward postmodern eclecticism, suggesting that present clinical practice in Spain still needs high-profile theoretical constructs.

The choice of tradition and the tradition of choice: Habermas’ and Rorty’s interpretation of pragmatism

1999

The paper is aimed at discussing two interpretations of pragmatism in a broader framework of general rules of philosophical interpretation. J. Habermas’ and R. Rorty’s uses of pragmatism are considered in detail and confronted with general assumptions of pragmatic philosophy. It is shown that in both cases the original ideas of pragmatism are changed in order to fit the philosophies of interpreters. The paper ends with discussion of a possibility of applying the rule of interpretative charity and dialogue to philosophical analyses.

Towards (dis)continuity of agricultural wetlands: Latvia’s polder landscapes after Soviet productivism

2017

The concepts of agricultural regimes in advanced economies, such as productivism or non/neo/post-productivism, have been critically debated over the last decades to understand the transition and diversity of modern agriculture. We explore these concepts to understand the environmentally vulnerable landscape of agricultural wetlands in Latvia that, during the era of Soviet high modernism (productivist agricultural regime), have been converted into polders as part of a mass drainage movement. Today, these post-Soviet agro-polders can be characterised as antipodes in relation to integrity of heritage, ecology and the socio-economics of agricultural concerns. Building on case studies, wider pol…
