Effects of Different Percentages of Microhydroxyapatite on Microhardness of Resin-modified Glass-ionomer and Zirconomer

2016

Background Hydroxyapatite (HA) is the main mineral component of the tooth structure, which exhibits considerable biological behavior and its incorporation might improve microhardness of dental materials. Microhardness of restorative materials, like glass-ionomer, is critical for the clinical longevity of restorations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the microhardness of two glass-ionomers types by incorporating different percentages of microhydroxyapatite. Material and Methods In this study, 80 disc-shaped experimental specimens (6 mm in diameter, 2 mm in height) were prepared in 8 groups, including resin-modified glass-ionomer (RMGI, GC, Gold Label, Japan), zirconia-reinforced glass-…

Study on Interfacial Surface in Modified Spray Tower

2019

This paper presents an analysis of the changes in interfacial surface and the size of droplets formed in a spray tower. The interfacial surface and the size of droplets formed are of fundamental importance to the performance of the equipment, both in terms of pressure drop and process efficiency. Liquid film and droplet sizes were measured using a microphotography technique. The confusors studied were classical, with profiled inside surface, and with double profiled inside surface. The liquids studied were water and aqueous solutions of high-molecular polyacrylamide (PAA) of power-law characteristics. The ranges of process Reynolds number studied were as follows: ReG &isin

Biomechanical comparison between the modified rolling-hitch and the modified finger-trap suture techniques

2016

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to characterize the biomechanical effect of two grasping suture techniques used during ligament reconstruction: the modified rolling-hitch (MRH) and the modified finger-trap (MFT). Methods: Flexor profundus tendons were harvested from fresh pig hind-leg trotters. Each specimen was mounted on an electro-mechanic universal testing machine (Instron 3367). In half of all tendons (15 specimens), the suture was passed around the tendon following the MRH knot (Group 1). In the remaining half of all tendons (15 specimens), the suture was passed over a distance of 30 mm according to the MFT suture technique (Group 2). As per standard intra-operative technique, …

Film blowing of silane-modified polyethylene

2009

The grafting of vinyltriethoxysilane (VTES) onto polyethylene (PE) with the help of small amounts of peroxides was investigated to film-blow these modified materials. The degree of crosslinking was kept very low to achieve good melt processability and improved mechanical properties. The possibility of obtaining modified PE films with improved properties and regularly distributed crosslinking with a single processing step demonstrates the uniqueness of this study. The additive concentration was established through preliminary studies; with a batch mixer, it was possible to process the modified PE in the film-blowing operation. Water treatment of the modified films after film blowing allowed …

Graphical and Analytical Quantitative Comparison in the Domes Assessment: The Case of San Francesco di Paola

2021

(1) Methods for checking the condition of monumental masonry structures can still be considered understudied. Among the different approaches available in the literature, the graphical ones have a special role, due to their simplicity and effectiveness. (2) In this work, a 2D method (Thrust Line Analysis (TLA)), the Modified Thrust Line Method (MTLM), and the 3D Membrane Equilibrium Analysis (MEA) method are compared. All methods have the same starting concept: no tensile strength, no sliding between the stone blocks, infinite compressive strength. (3) The methods are compared in terms of stress distribution (for the same—or similar—thrust line), and in terms of the Geometrical Safety Factor…

Nanocomposites based on esterified colophony and halloysite clay nanotubes as consolidants for waterlogged archaeological woods

2017

We have designed an innovative protocol for the consolidation of waterlogged archaeological woods by using acetone mixtures of halloysite clay nanotubes and a chemically modified colophony (Rosin). Firstly, we have investigated the thermal properties of HNTs/Rosin nanocomposites, which have been prepared by means of the casting method from acetone. The HNTs content have been systematically changed in order to study the influence of the inorganic filler on the thermal stability and glass transition process of Rosin. We have observed that the thermal properties of the hybrids are affected by the specific HNTs/Rosin interactions. Then, acetone dispersions of HNTs/Rosin composites at variable f…

Novel Ni(II) Mixed Ligand Complex Modified Electrode: Catalytic Effect on Anodic Oxidation of Phenol

2004

Cyclic voltammetry, using graphite paste electrode (GPE) and chemically modified GPE with Ni(II) mixed ligand complex (MGPE), is described for sensing and detoxification of phenol. A novel mixed ligand complex of nickel with 1,4,8,11-tetraaza cyclotetradecane (cyclam) and thiocyanate in the molar ratio of 1 : 2 : 5 is synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic and electrochemical studies. The Ni(II)-cyclam-thiocyanate complex behaves as a fast electron-transfer mediator, as nickel ions exist in higher oxidation state of Ni(III) on applying a potential of 1.25 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), which catalyses the oxidation of the target species. The mixed ligand complex, when incorporated in the graphite…

Thixotropic Behavior of Salad Dressings Stabilized with Modified Starch, Pectin, and Gellan Gum. Influence of Temperature

2008

The thixotropy of low‐oil salad dressing has been analyzed at different temperatures (8–26°C). The usual formulation containing modified starch (4%) was compared with others in which part of the starch had been substituted by pectin (0.5%) or different concentrations of gellan (0.1 and 0.5%). Up and down flow curves were measured, showing in all cases shear thinning behavior and fitting the Herschel‐Bulkley model. Thixotropic areas enclosed by the up curve and the corresponding different down curves, STh, were obtained. With the aim of establishing comparative results, and since the viscosities were quite different, the parameter considered was relative thixotropic area, SR (%)=100 (STh/Sup…

Perturbation of spermine synthase Gene Expression and Transcript Profiling Provide New Insights on the Role of the Tetraamine Spermine in Arabidopsis…

2011

The role of the tetraamine spermine in plant defense against pathogens was investigated by using the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana)-Pseudomonas viridiflava pathosystem. The effects of perturbations of plant spermine levels on susceptibility to bacterial infection were evaluated in transgenic plants (35S::spermine synthase [SPMS]) that overexpressed the SPMS gene and accumulated spermine, as well as in spms mutants with low spermine levels. The former exhibited higher resistance to P. viridiflava than wild-type plants, while the latter were more susceptible. Exogenous supply of spermine to wild-type plants also increased disease resistance. Increased resistance provided by spermine was p…
