In this paper we study the problem of the diffusion of one substance through the pores of a porous material which may absorb and immobilize some of the diffusing substances with the evolution or absorption of heat. The transfer of moisture and the heat are described by the model. The system of two partial differential equations (PDEs) is derived, one equation expresses the rate of change of concentration of water vapour in the air spaces and the other the rate of change of temperature. The results of a complex study of structural changes in a cured Norpol 440 polyester resin under the action of damp environment and mechanical loading are presented. A considerable effect of absorbed moisture on the structure and some characteristics of the material is revealed by using thermophysical methods and X-ray diffractometry. Abstract In this study, we investigated the peculiarities of moisture absorption and moisture-induced effects on the elastic and viscoelastic flexural properties of epoxy resin and carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) filled with multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). Short-term cyclic creep-recovery tests of moistened epoxy and CFRP filled with MWCNTs revealed improvements in creep resistance for both materials. The addition of MWCNTs to the epoxy resin suppressed the moisture absorption by the material, causing a reduction in the diffusion coefficient by 31% and equilibrium moisture content by 15%. The exposition of thermoplastic composites reinforced with natural fibers to moisture and heat is likely to lower their mechanical properties and restrain their use in the design of parts. The present work is focussed on investigating the effects of hygrothermal aging on the mechanical behaviour of injected polypropylene reinforced with short hemp fibers. Moreover, the kinetic of isothermal moisture absorption has been studied for four immersion temperatures. The aim of this work was to study the changes of both the moisture content and the texture of dried apricots packaged in two types of containers, namely glass and polypropylene trays, which were thermosealed with two different films and stored at a constant temperature (5, 15, 25 and 35C). The effects of an alternative physical pre-treatment for enhancing the drying rate of different plums (Stanley, Angeleno(R), and Empress), are evaluated by means of the principal chemical parameters and by skin colour. The pre-treatment consists of the superficial abrasion of the plums' peels using an inert abrasive material to remove the cuticular waxy layer, the limiting factor for moisture loss.
