Acoustic vibrations of metal nanoparticles: high order radial mode detection

2004

The vibrational radial modes of silver nanospheres embedded in a glass matrix are investigated using a high sensitivity femtosecond pump-probe technique. The results yield evidence for coherent launching of the fundamental and higher order radial modes in agreement with a sphere dilation mediated excitation model. The results are consistent with low-frequency Raman scattering experiments.

Symmetry-adapted tensorial formalism to model rovibrational and rovibronic spectra of molecules pertaining to various point groups

2004

International audience; We present a short review on the tensorial formalism developed by the Dijon group to solve molecular spectroscopy problems. This approach, originally devoted to the rovibrational spectroscopy of highly symmetrical species (spherical tops) has been recently extended in several directions: quasi-spherical tops, some symmetric and asymmetric tops, and rovibronic spectroscopy of spherical tops in a degenerate electronic state. Despite its apparent complexity (heavy notations, quite complex mathematical tools), these group theoretical tensorial methods have a great advantage of flexibility: a systematic expansion of effective terms for any rovib- rational/rovibronic probl…

Rovibrational controlled-NOT gates using optimized stimulated Raman adiabatic passage techniques and optimal control theory

2009

International audience; Implementation of quantum controlled-NOT (CNOT) gates in realistic molecular systems is studied using stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) techniques optimized in the time domain by genetic algorithms or coupled with optimal control theory. In the first case, with an adiabatic solution (a series of STIRAP processes) as starting point, we optimize in the time domain different parameters of the pulses to obtain a high fidelity in two realistic cases under consideration. A two-qubit CNOT gate constructed from different assignments in rovibrational states is considered in diatomic (NaCs) or polyatomic (SCCl2) molecules. The difficulty of encoding logical states in…

A Hirshfeld partitioning of polarizabilities of water clusters

2006

International audience; A new Hirshfeld partitioning of cluster polarizability into intrinsic polarizabilities and charge delocalization contributions is presented. For water clusters, density-functional theory calculations demonstrate that the total polarizability of a water molecule in a cluster depends upon the number and type of hydrogen bonds the molecule makes with its neighbors. The intrinsic contribution to the molecular polarizability is transferable between water molecules displaying the same H-bond scheme in clusters of different sizes, and geometries, while the charge delocalization contribution also depends on the cluster size. These results could be used to improve the existin…

Quasi-soliton spatial autoguidé en milieu non lineaire quadratique

2021

All-optical fiber-based devices for ultrafast amplitude jitter magnification

2012

International audience; We propose two fiber-based architectures that enable the all-optical magnification of ultrafast amplitude fluctuations of picosecond or femtosecond pulse trains. An increase of the fluctuations by more than one order of magnitude is experimentally achieved.

Wavelength dependence of multiphoton ionization of xenon

2004

International audience; We have studied the multiphoton ionization of xenon atoms by 160 fs pulses at intensities of 531012 and 1.331013 W/cm2 and present photoelectron kinetic energy and angular distribution spectra measured with a photoelectron imaging spectrometer. A noncollinear optical parametric amplifier allows us to tune the wavelength of the laser pulse over a range between 500 and 700 nm. Resonant and nonresonant processes as well as channel switching effects have been observed in this intensity and wavelength regime. Mainly resonant s5+1d-photon ionization via ns, nd, and nd8 Rydberg states was studied in the region of 505–602 nm. Resonance structures were found related to the tw…

Echo-assisted impulsive alignment of room-temperature acetone molecules

2021

International audience; We experimentally and theoretically investigate the field-free alignment of the asymmetric-top acetone molecule. Our study shows that the production of postpulse aligned molecules in a dense sample (0.05-0.2 bar) of room-temperature acetone using a single-pulse excitation can be significantly improved by rotational alignment echoes induced in a two-pulse excitation scheme. We report the observation of fractional echoes that can be used to reveal the nonlinearity of the molecular system. In a proof-of-principle experiment, a pre-aligned sample of acetone is also used for third-harmonic generation. The analysis of the experimental data with numerical simulations based …
